EAST NEW MARKET - Madeline L. Johnson, of East New Market, formerly of Ridgely, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, in the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge. She was 85. Born in Indian Head, Md., Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Clyde Gates and Mary Belle Monroe Gates. Her husband, Robert B. Johnson, died Jan. 29, 1996. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had lived in Ridgely, for many years before moving to East New Market eight years ago where she loved playing cards with her friends. Mrs. Johnson is survived by one son, Robert C. Johnson of Chesapeake Beach; one daughter, Carol Burton of East New Market; four grandchildren, Joe Magrogan, Lisa Fretz, Glenn Johnson and Mary-Sue Garren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Gates and J. Earl Gates. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second Street, Denton, where friends may call one hour before the service. The interment will be in the Ridgely Cemetery on MD Rt. 480, in Ridgely. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East New Market Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 280, East New Market, MD 21631.
