Luther Ray Dean, 72 FISHING CREEK - Luther Ray Dean, 72, of Fishing Creek, passed away on July 5, 2010, at his home. He was born in Hoopers Island on April 14, 1938, and he was the son of Luther and Louise Parker Dean. Mr. Dean graduated from South Dorchester High School class of 1956. He served in the Army National Guard. On September 9, 1962 he married the former Lind Lee. He was a waterman most of his life and also did marine construction. He enjoyed building boats, carving decoys and horseback riding. He received several trophies and plaques in archery as well as a Delaware State Champion in Archery. Mr. Dean also taught archery at the 4H Club. He was a member of Hosier United Methodist Church and Western Horseman Club of Dorchester County. He was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Lind Dean of Fishing Creek, a daughter Miranda LeCompte and husband Sam of Hoopers Island, a son Christopher Dean and wife Mimi of Salisbury, four grandsons Sam W. LeCompte IV and wife Jessica of Annapolis, Matthew LeCompte of Cambridge, Logan LeCompte of Hoopers Island and Luke Dean of Salisbury. He is preceded in death by a sister Doris Dean. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Hosier United Methodist Church with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hosier United Methodist Church, c/o Priscilla McGlaughlin, P.O. Box 41 Fishing Creek, MD 21634 or to the Humane Society of Dorchester County, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
