Lucretia 'Lue' Adelaide Watson Smoot, 79

DOVER - Lucretia "Lue" Adelaide Watson Smoot, of Dover, passed away Tuesday June 10, 2008, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 79.

Lue was born May 18, 1929, in Altoona, Pa., to the late Victor W. Watson and Catherine Cover Watson.

She graduated from Altoona High School in 1946. Lue worked as a cashier, switchboard operator and receptionist for the City of Dover, and then worked as an administrative clerk for the City Water Department, retiring in 1995. Prior to her working for the City of Dover she worked many years for the City of Newark.

She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover. Lue enjoyed face painting, traveling, cooking and fine dining. She also enjoyed doing water aerobics at the YMCA, where she had many friends.

She loved going to her grandchildren's sporting events and just loved life in general. Rori, her oldest grandchild, affectionately dubbed Grandmother Lucretia, "MeMe," as she was lovingly referred to by all her grandchildren, close family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Lue was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Janaeck; and grandson Todd Sammons.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Robert Barrett of Dover; three daughters, Vicky Cooke and her husband Mike of Milford, Claudia Donahue and her husband Mike of Germany, Melany Sammons and her husband Lee, of Dover; two sisters, Dian Paulson of Hemet, Calif., Linda Kline Horne of Framingham, Mass; 10 grandchildren, Rori Oakes, Karen Godoy, Kelly Benner, Tom and Barry Donahue, Kristopher Willey, Sean Sammons, Isabel Rose and Arron Barrett and Sara Jane Baker; and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. Bradford St., Dover.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc., 111 W. 11th St., Suite 3, Wilmington, DE 19801
