
LEWES - Louis Lane Fisher passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. Lou was born on June 15, 1924, in Milton, Del., son of the late Joseph W. and Viola Catherine (Johnson) Fisher. Mr. Fisher was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army's 128th Calvary, 128th Reconnaissance Squadron, 4th Armored Division under the command of General George Patton. After WWII, he reenlisted in the Army Reserves where he was called up again during the Korean War. Once Lou came back from war, he applied for a position with the Lewes Police Department. He served 25 years with the police department and retired as Chief of Police in 1975. Lou was also well known in the Lewes area as a bus driver for the Lewes and Cape Henlopen School District. He owned and operated his own bus for 52 years until the age of 77. Lou was a lifetime member of the Lewes Volunteer Fire Department, a Mason and attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving companion, Arden Nagy; and a sister-in-law, Joan Nagy. He is survived by his daughter, Holly A. Downs; two grandsons, Steven A. Downs, II and Andy M. Downs; a sister-in-law, Michelle Vessels and her husband Jack; numerous nieces and nephews and very close family friends, the Wyckoff and Taylor families. A memorial service will be held at noon on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Lewes, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Lou's name to the Lewes Fire Department, PO Box 225, Lewes, DE 19958 or St. Peter's Episcopal Church, PO Box 464., Lewes, DE 19958.
