Louis E. Spitzfaden

HARTLY - Louis E. Spitzfaden peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday Dec. 4, 2013 at the age of 88. He was born on March 30, 1925, son of the late Mary and Henry Spitzfaden of New York, New York. Louis served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army for 27 years, a Veteran of World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was in E.O.D. (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) for most of his military career. After retirement, he was a self-employed advertising specialist. He was also a graduate of Delaware State University with a B.A. degree in Hospitality Management. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Disabled American Veterans, and Marine Corp League. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, June, of 41 years; a brother, Thomas; and son-in-law, Albert LaMarche. Mr. Spitzfaden is survived by his wife of 21 years, Madeline; his extended family includes children, Gail Phillips and husband, Wendell of Jacksonville, Ark.; Donna Ludlam and husband, Larry of Rincon, Ga.; Patty Kepfer and husband, Richard of Hartly; Frederic Wiebel and his wife, Lupe of El Paso, Texas; Lois LaMarche of Dover; Kathleen Koch and husband, Daniel of Wilmington; he will be missed by his sixteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE, and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Dover, DE. A heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers for their special care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Verterans of America or U.S. Marine Corps, Toys for Tots.
