Lottie Apple Hastings

Lottie Apple Hastings, 87 QUEEN ANNE, Md. - Lottie Apple Hastings, age 87, of Queen Anne, died on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at William Hill Manor in Easton, Md. Born Nov. 23, 1922, in Reids Grove, Md., Mrs. Hastings was the daughter of the late James and Laura Wheatley Apple. She was educated in Dorchester County and graduated from Vienna High School in 1940. On Jan. 5, 1950, Mrs. Hastings married C. Windsor Hastings of Eldorado, Md., where they started farming. In 1956, they moved to Trappe, Md. and then in 1959 moved to Queen Anne's County where they continued farming until retirement in 1990. Mrs. Hastings was a member of the Wye Mills United Methodist Church and Queen Anne's County Farm Bureau and she and her husband were active in the Queenstown Lions Club and the Tri-County Ruritan. She enjoyed family and community activities, gardening and travel. Mrs. Hastings is survived by her in-laws, George and Ann Hastings of East New Market, Annette Apple of Vienna, Dorothy Jones of Hurlock, Vernon Hughes of Vienna, Helen Jackson of East New Market; son-in-law, Peter Tressler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, C. Windsor Hastings, who died April 21, 1999. She also is preceded in death by daughter, Charlotte Ann Hastings Tressler and brothers, Joseph H., J. Rawlings and Miles Louis Apple. Services will be noon on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 408 South Liberty Street, Centreville, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in the East New Market Cemetery, East New Market. Memorial donations may be made to Wye Mills United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 267, Queen Anne, MD 21657 and the Tri-County Ruritan, 30319 Queen Anne Highway, Queen Anne, MD 21657. Online condolences may be made at www.fhnfuneralhome.com.
