'Edie' Wright, 84
DOVER - Loretta E. "Edie" Wright passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Kent General Hospital.
Edie was born September 5, 1937, in Dover, Delaware to the late Woodrow W. Gilbert Sr. and Mary Walls Gilbert.
Edie, as she was known by many, had several careers. She was a seamstress at Leeds Travelware in Smyrna. She worked for a period of time at International Latex in Dover. She owned and operated the Dover Restaurant and was a Manager of Kimberlee's Family Restaurant in Dover. She drove a school bus and worked for the Division of Visually Impaired. She also would hang wallpaper and clean homes. Her most recent employment was with Dawson's Bus Service in Camden, as an aide for the John S. Charlton School. In addition, we cannot forget about Edie's love for making her famous pies at Hall's Family Restaurant in Wyoming. Edie was a past member of the Camden/ Wyoming Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary and the Harrington Moose Lodge. She never met a stranger; her heart and her home were always open to many. Edie would always say, "I raised 7 of my own and 14 of somebody else's." Edie loved to travel. She and her family have traveled by car, motorhome, plane and boat to Florida, Maryland, Tennessee, Missouri, North Carolina, Mexico, and various Caribbean Islands. She spent a lot of time at her home away from home, Trail's End, located in Horntown, Virginia affectionately known as "The Beach".
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Wright; and her brothers, Ralph "Happy" Gilbert and John R. Gilbert.
She is survived by her sons, Harry McNatt of Felton, Clarence McNatt, III of Wyoming, and John Wayne Wright Sr. of Woodside; daughters, Harriett "Sue" Wardwell of Cheswold, Brenda Wooleyhand of Cheswold, Elaine Wooleyhand of Wyoming, Loretta Dear of Dover, Susan Conley of Dover; brother, Woodrow W. "Buddy" Gilbert, Jr. of Dover; sisters, Eleanor "Woodie" Kimble of Dover, Leona Cravens of Dover and Joan Thompson of Dover; a large loving group of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to John S. Charlton School, 278 Sorghum Mill Rd., Camden, DE 19934 or AI Dupont Children's Hospital, 1600 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
