Woodbridge High topped Lake Forest, 54-41, in a showdown between the top two Henlopen South girls’ basketball teams on Monday night.
Junior Payton Keeler netted 22 points, with six three-pointers and nine rebounds for the Blue Raiders (10-0 South, 11-2 overall), who stayed unbeaten in the division. De’Asya Jones (14), who had seven assists, and Reghan Robinson (11) also scored in double figures.
Woodridge led only 12-10 when Keeler hit a long three-pointer just before the end of the first quarter. Woodbridge’s advantage was 28-20 at halftime and 43-30 at the end of the third quarter.
The Spartans, who got 23 points from Gabrielle Almonte, fell to 9-1 in the South, 11-3 overall. The two teams play again on Feb. 22 in Felton.
Polytech 62, Milford 14: The Panthers’ tallied 24 first-quarter points before picking up the Henlopen North win.
Kallie Hopins had 14 points for Polytech with Sky Naranjo adding 11.
Early College 31, Sussex Academy 29: The Hornets edged the Seahawks in a Henlopen South matchup.
Delmarva Christian 59, Salisbury 25: The Royals improved to 11-4 with the victory.
Boys’ basketball
Laurel 77, Delaware Military 57: The Bulldogs out-scored the Seahawks, 65-41, over the last three quarters to overcome an early four-point deficit.
Javier White netted 28 points for Laurel with Kylse Wilson (17), Nifere Griffin (14) and Brock Hill (13) also leading the way.
Salisbury School 71, Delmarva Christian 58: The Royals fell to 11-4 after their second loss in a row.
College basketball
MEN, Howard 69, Delaware State 64: The Hornets closed within three points four times in the second half but never got any closer in the MEAC loss.
It was the third loss by five points or less in the last four games for DelState (0-6 MEAC, 2-16 overall). Myles Carter netted 24 points and nine rebounds with Martaz Robinson adding 19 points.
Hens’ Davis honored again: Delaware forward Jyare Davis earned his second consecutive Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week award in men’s basketball.
Davis scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field during last Thursday’s home game vs. Drexel. He also grabbed five rebounds during 25 minutes on the floor.
WOMEN, Howard 83, Delaware State 49: The Bison out-scored the Hornets, 27-11, in the second quarter to take control before winning its ninth straight over DSU.
Unique Miller (19) and Janasia Law (16) led the Hornets (0-5 MEAC, 0-14 overall), who used seven players in the contest.
Another award for UD’s Dickey: After pouring in 76 points in two games, the third-highest mark in program history, Delaware’s Jasmine Dickey was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week in women’s basketball. It’s the third time the senior won the award this season.
Dickey also collected 34 rebounds, five assists and four steals. She shot 23-of-54 and 27-of-30 from the free-throw line.
Dickey became the first player to record 52 points and 18 rebounds against an NCAA DI opponent since 2009-10. On the season, she is averaging 25.4 points per game, which ranks her second nationally in Division I.
College lacrosse
CAA honors Hens’ Robinson: Delaware men’s lacrosse player Mike Robinson has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week.
Robinson scored on all six of his shot attempts in the Blue Hens’ season-opening 19-9 victory over NJIT n Saturday. He also had three assists.
