Top-seeded Caravel Academy held off No. 9 seed Woodbridge High for a 50-40 victory in the DIAA girls basketball quarterfinals on Monday night.
The Blue Raiders had previously faced Caravel this year and lost by 33 points, but Monday’s contest was much closer.
The game was tied 12-12 in the second quarter and Caravel led only 21-16 at halftime. Woodbridge cut Caravel’s lead to as little as two points in the fourth quarter before finishing its season at 16-7 overall.
Caravel will play No. 5 seed Tatnall in the semifinals at the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Hens’ Battle earns CAA honor: Delaware women’s basketball senior forward Ty Battle was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week.
It’s the third time in her career that Battle has won the award.
In Delaware’s 1-1 week, Battle averaged 15.0 points, 18.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. In a win over Towson, Battle finished with 18 points and a career-best 24 rebounds (10 offensive).
Battle and the No. 2 seeded-Blue Hens will face No. 7 seed William & Mary in the CAA quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m. at Drexel.
College athletics
Nagy, Adams going into UD Hall: Former football standouts Mike Adams (1999-2003) and Matt Nagy (1997-2000) are among eight inductees into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will be held on April 15.
Adams and Nagy join Jack Turner (football/baseball), Kathy Tucci (softball/field hockey), Jordan Hall (men’s lacrosse), Megan Dellegrotti (women’s basketball), Bob Shillinglaw (men’s lacrosse), Lenny Williams (football), who were honored in a ceremony during the fall.
College equestrian
Hornets split two meets: Olivia Brown earned both Most Outstanding Performer Awards to lead Delaware State equestrian’s jumping seat team to a 5-3 victory over Lynchburg in Blythewood, South Carolina, over the weekend.
Earlier in the weekend, Delaware State fell to South Carolina 12-4.
Brown led all competitors with a score of 78 aboard “Joe” to earn a point for the Hornets in the Fences competition. Maranda McCarthy also collected a Fences point for Delaware State with a score of 69.
Brown posted her second MOP award with a stellar performance on the Flat, topping all riders with a score of 77 on “Dento.”
McCarthy (76.5) and Jordan Wicklund (74.5) also turned in winning rides on the Flat for the Hornets in the victory over Lynchburg.
McCarthy and Gabrielle Fournier posted Fences wins, while Aniela Cortina (Horsemanship) and Abbey Craver (Reining) also earned points for the Hornets in the South Carolina contest.
College lacrosse
WOMEN, Sacred Heart 14, Delaware State 3: Sacred Heart scored the first nine goals en route to the win over the Hornets on Sunday.
Emmy McGill, Saniya Craft and Tia Epps recorded goals for Delaware State (0-3).
