Salisbury scored the first 18 points of the fourth quarter to take the lead before holding on for a 32-30 victory over Wesley College in NJAC football on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines got within two when Jerrish Halsey caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brady Walters and Latrell McCants ran for the two-point conversion with only 25 seconds left. But the Sea Gulls recovered the ensuing onsides kick and ran out the clock.

The contest was the first of a three-game spring season for Wesley. It was also the last game on Drass Field for the Wolverines, who are dropping athletics at the end of the school year.

Wesley finishes with a 21-10 record against Route 13 rival Salisbury.

The game was close throughout. Walters, a sophomore quarterback making his first career start, completed 16-of-31 for 278 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception.

Halsey also had a 63-yard scoring catch, finishing with 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five catches.

Xavier Drummond ran for 101 yards on 13 carries. The Sussex Tech High grad ran 34 yards for a TD to give Wesley an early lead.
The Wolverines also got one-yard TD run from McCants, who had 63 yards on 12 carries.

Marcus Gaspard collected a game-high 11 tackles and returned an interception 44 yards for Wesley. Mike Brewer (Woodbridge) added nine tackles.

Marcus Wilson ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 17 caries to pace Salisbury.

Villanova 6, Delaware 5: The Wildcats scored three times in the seventh inning to down the Blue Hens (2-1).

Aidan Riley’s two-run single to center knotted the game at 3-3 in the sixth for Delaware. Trailing 6-3, the Hens got a pair of runs back in the eighth when Joseph Carpenter singled home Joey Loynd and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Vinny Vaccone.

But Delaware went down in order in the ninth. Loynd, Carpenter and Riley each finished with two hits.

Mount St. Mary’s 13, Delaware State 11: After trailing 6-0, the Hornets fought back to tie the game in the seventh before the Mount pulled ahead again for good on Friday.

The loss overshadowed a 14-hit, four-home run performance by the Hornets. The home runs, two by Trey Paige, were the first for DSU this season. Cole Garey (Polytech) and Mark Herron also went deep for the Hornets in the contest.
