Local roundup: Vikings win another baseball nail-biter

Relief pitcher Owen Daminger came in with the bases loaded and got a three-pitch strikeout to preserve Cape Henlopen High’s 2-1 win over Caravel in baseball on Saturday afternoon.

Josh Reinhold pitched the first six 2/3 innings for the Vikings, allowing only a run in the fourth while pitching a five-hitter.

Brenn Scott (1 RBI) and Brian Fleming had two hits apiece for Cape Henlopen, which scored runs in the first and third. The victory was the third straight one-run win for the Vikings (4-2).

St. Mark’s 4, Delmar 2: Gavin Linzy had both Wildcat hits and scored a run while Bryce Hendrcks pitched a six-hitter in the loss.

Indian River 22, Dickinson 0: John Townsend pitched a five-inning one-hitter to earn the shutout for the Indians.

Finn Hanley, Benjamin Cordrey and Roman Keith all had three hits as IR finished with 18 in the contest.

Indian River 14, Dickinson 1: The Indians used a nine-run first inning to take control in the second game of the doubleheader.

Jace Jarmon went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI, three runs and three stolen bases.

St. Andrews 3, Seaford 2: The Cardinals edged the Blue Jays in a non-conference matchup.

Polytech 12, Delmarva Christian 1: Winning pitcher Ocean Johnson allowed six hits and a run while striking out seven in four 2/3 innings.

Connor Bartlett went 3-for-3 for Polytech, which had five doubles among its five hits.

Chester Furmanek doubled for the Royals.

Softball

Polytech 13, Dover 3: Rachel Carey collected five RBI as the Panthers posted their first win of the season.

MacKenzie Mitchell went 4-for-4 with a triple and double while Jumaria Sample was 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and three stolen bases. Winning pitcher Mara Everton struck out six.

Delmarva Christian 9, Padua 1: Lilli Showacre pitched a five-hitter and added a double for the Royals, who scored three runs in the first inning.

Caravel 10, Cape Henlopen 4: The Vikings were leading 2-1 when the Buccaneers erupted for eight runs in the fourth.

Cape’s Abigail Marsh went 3-for-4 while Eden Frederick added a pair of hits.

Archbishop Spalding, Md. 18, Sussex Tech 4: Journey Hopkins had a homerun and double with three RBI for the Ravens in the loss.

Girls’ soccer

Lake Forest 2, Polytech 1: Bri Russum netted a goal in each half in the Spartans’ victory.

Kyra Moyer made eight saves for Lake Forest.

Kylee LaVere got the Panthers within one on a goal in the 79th minute while Dalonna Thomas and Addison Diappas combined to make six saves.

Girls’ lacrosse

Polytech 24, Milford 4: Freshman Amelia Payus tallied five goals and a pair of assists as the Panthers (3-2) won their third game in a row.

Molly Kenney (4 goals, 4 assists), Elise Diantonio (3 goals) and Madison Todd (3 goals, 1 assist) also paced Polytech.

Hannah Zimmerman had three goals and an assist for Milford.

Boys’ lacrosse

Delmar 16, Woodbridge 5: The Wildcats posted the Henlopen South win over the Blue Raiders.

Polytech 8, Milford 7: The Panthers scored just one second-half goal but it was enough to take the Henlopen North victory.

Kolin Thompson and Anthony Iafornaro had two goals apiece for the Buccaneers, Devin McNamara made 10 saves.

Boys’ volleyball

Cape Henlopen 3, Mt. Pleasant 0: The Vikings won in straight sets, taking the match by scores of 25-7, 25-15, 25-15.

Cape Henlopen 3, M.O.T. Charter 0: The Vikings earned the victory by scores of 25-15, 25-12, 25-16.

Odin DeLazaro Potemski had 11 kills with Ethan Shuttleworth adding five aces and 31 assists for Cape Henlopen.
