Local roundup: Sussex Tech, Sussex Central, Seaford pick up football wins

Sussex Tech High scored 20 unanswered second-quarter points to pull away to a 47-6 victory over Mt. Pleasant in nonconference football on Friday night.

Michael Norsworthy scored back-to-back touchdowns on runs of 69 and five yards as the Ravens (2-1) opened up a 27-0 halftime lead.

Quarterback Chase Snyder threw a pair of scoring passes as six different Sussex Tech players scored in the contest. Kevin Custis had a 52-yard interception return for a TD.

Seaford 46, St. Andrews 28: Adrian Watts ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another as the Blue Jays (1-2) earned their first win of the season.

Theo Jaffe also returned a fumble for a TD for Seaford, which outscored St. Andrews 22-0 in the second half.

A.I. DuPont 40, Lake Forest 16: The Spartans (1-2) took the lead in the second quarter but the Tigers (3-0) scored the game’s final 20 points to pull away.

Ja-Juan Reid scored both Lake Forest touchdowns, on a 53-yard run and on a 73-yard pass from Shyron Salandy. A.I. DuPont sealed the win on a 38-yard interception return TD in the fourth quarter.

Sussex Central 31, Caravel 0: The Golden Knights blanked the Buccaneers to post their second straight win and improve to 2-1.

Laurel 78, Washington, Md. 27: The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 after picking up the lopsided win on the road.

St. Mark’s 55, Indian River 14: The Spartans (3-0) scored all 55 of its points in the first half en route to the win over the Indians (1-2).

Northeast, Md. 21, Cape Henlopen 13: The Vikings fell to 0-3 after dropping the nonconference decision.

Field hockey

Lake Forest 6, Laurel 0: Grace Aguilar tallied the Spartans’ first three goals in their Henleopen Conference win.

Hailey Moore, Julianna Tyndall and Elle Wood also scored for Lake Forest, which finished with advantages of 28-5 in shots and 15-5 in corners.

The Bulldogs’ Kaegen Brittingham made 22 saves.

Smyrna 5, Sussex Central 0: Jessica Bergold netted three goals to pace the Eagles to the conference win on Thursday.

Madeline Wilber (1 assist) and Alexis Moore scored Smyrna’s other goals with Katelynn Porter making three saves.

Kianna Kelley made seven saves for the Golden Knights.

College field hockey

Eastern Mennonite 3, Wesley 1: After falling behind 2-0 early, Wesley cut the lead in half when Kristen Fuhr netted her second goal of the year in the 14th minute.

The Wolverines (4-3) outshot Eastern Mennonite 21-17, including 10-6 in the second half. Fuhr put five shots on goal while Kaila Hindt recorded three shots.

Lauren Berry stopped a career-high 12 shots in goal for Wesley.

College volleyball

Towson 3, Delaware 0: The Blue Hens (6-7 overall) dropped their Colonial Athletic Association opener to Towson, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22.

Junior Maria Bellinger led the way with 13 kills and hit the double-digit mark for the ninth time this season. Junior Bailey Pearlman had eight hammers while senior Brooke Robertson posted five. Junior Cailey Bracken had four.
