Local roundup: Sussex Tech edges St. Mark’s 2-1 in nonconference soccer

Sussex Tech High netted a pair of first-half goals before holding off St. Mark’s for a 2-1 victory over the Spartans in boys’ soccer on Saturday.

Trevor Daisey tallied both goals on assists from Cody Coleman for the Ravens, who finished with advantages of 9-8 in shots and 3-2 in corner kicks.

Goalie Jodi Johnson made seven saves, allowing only a goal in the 60th minute.

Cape Henlopen 8, McKean 0: Eight different players scored for the Vikings, who improved to 10-0-1 with the nonconference win.

Cape held advantages of 12-0 in shots and 9-0 in corner kicks. The Vikings play at Caesar Rodney on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. with a chance to capture the Henlopen North title.

Archmere 3, Dover 1: Emerson Escalante-Diaz netted a second-half goal for the Senators, who also got eight saves from Humberto Monasterio.

Football

Laurel 35, Polytech 6: The Bulldogs celebrated homecoming with the win to improve to 3-3 on Saturday.

College soccer

MEN, Wesley 2, Marywood 0: Danny Garza scored his third goal of the season with Deekai Gbonimy adding his fourth in the Wolverines’ Atlantic East Conference win.

Wesley improves to 10-3-1 overall, 2-1-1 in the Atlantic East. It’s the first time Wesley has recorded double-digit wins in a season since 2009.

WOMEN, Wesley 3, Marywood 1: Mackenzie Forsythe posted her second hat trick of the season to pace the Wolverines to the Atlantic East win.

Isabelle Fabris made 16 saves in goal to register a career-high for Wesley (3-1 AEC, 8-3-1 overall).

College volleyball

Neumann 3, Wesley 1: The Knights picked up a 25-13, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 Atlantic East Conference win over the Wolverines.

Lindsay Burg registered her ninth double-double of the season with a 16-dig, 15-assist performance in the four-set loss. Burg also added three service aces.

Regan Healey led the Wesley offense with 10 kills, her second consecutive game and 12th time this season Healey recorded double-digit kills. She also added six digs and two block assists.

College field hockey

Gwynedd-Mercy 2, Wesley 0: Goalie Sidney Knott made four saves for the Wolverines in the conference loss.
