The Ravens closed the season with back-to-back victories to finish with a 5-5 overall record.
Kevin Custis ran for a pair of touchdowns while senior quarterback Chase Snyder threw for two TDs and ran for another in the high-scoring contest. Sussex Tech owned a 35-27 halftime lead before scoring 22 unanswered points in the second half.
Jaden Davis scored three touchdowns for the Vikings, who end up 2-8 overall.
Laurel 42, Seaford 0: The Bulldogs blanked the Bulldogs in the season-ending rivalry game.
Laurel finished with a record 4-6 for the fourth straight year while the Blue Jays went 0-8.
College basketball
MEN, Delaware 56, Oakland 53: Delaware erupted for a 25-2 run in the second half and held on down the stretch in the first game of the Sunshine Slam tournament Friday night at Silver Spurs Arena.
Delaware trailed 28-20 at the break, and the Golden Grizzlies quickly scored the first two buckets of the second half to take a 12-point advantage. However the Blue Hens exploded for a 16-0 run while holding Oakland scoreless for the next eight minutes, going in front 36-32 on a Nate Darling basket at the 10:56 mark.
Darling, making his Blue Hen debut, finished with a game-high 22 points and went 5-of-9 from three-point range. Ryan Allen contributed 12 points and five assists, while Collin Goss collected a game-best 10 rebounds.
Rider 81, Delaware State 54: Frederick Scott led five Rider scorers in double figures with 13 points in the Broncs’ victory over Delaware State in the Hornets season opener in Memorial Hall.
Rider hit 30 of its 58 shots from the field (51.75) to improve to 2-0 this season. The Broncs opened their 2019-20 season with a 91-84 victory at Coppin State last Tuesday.
John Crosby, playing his first game at Delaware State after three seasons at Dayton, was high scorer for the Hornets with 14 points, while Delaware native John Stansbury (Hodgson Vo-Tech) added 13 points in his first collegiate contest.
Wesley’s Cameron earns preseason honor: Wesley College senior guard Brian Cameron has been Preseason Honorable Mention All-American by D3hoops.com.
The lone Atlantic East Conference player to be recognized by D3hoops, Cameron tallied 26.6 points per game last year, which was good for fourth nationally in Division III. He set a program scoring record with 718 points.
Cameron also ranked sixth in the nation in total field goals made (244), seventh in field goal attempts (494) and 24th in three-point field goal percentage (.444).
The Wolverines open the season today by hosting Ramapo at 2 p.m.
WOMEN, Maine 69, Delaware 56: Blanca Millan poured in 37 points as the Black Bears downed the Blue Hens in their season opener.
A 6-foot-1 senior guard from Spain, Millan sank 11-of-19 shots from the floor and 13-of-15 free throws to pace Maine.
Delaware, which led 18-14 after the first quarter, got 17 points and 13 rebounds from Jasmine Dickey plus 11 points from Kayla Shaw.
College field hockey
Delaware 5, James Madison 3: The top-seeded Blue Hens tallied the first three goals of the contest before holding off the Dukes in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals on Friday.
No. 11 Delaware will host the conference title game on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
Lotte de Koning scored four goals for the Hens, who were up 3-0 at halftime before JMU closed within 3-2 in the third quarter. But Delaware answered with two more goals before posting the win.
Ally Pollak also scored for the Hens, who got four saves from goalie Sydney Rhodes. Delaware out-shot the Dukes, 12-7, including eight shots from De Koning.
College soccer
MEN, Hofstra 2, Delaware 1: Hofstra forward Matthew Vowinkel scored the game-winning goal with just 4:36 remaining as the Pride edged Delaware in a Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinal matchup.
The Blue Hens took an early lead when Marco de la Bandera scored his first career goal off assists from freshmen Jacob Rubini and Alvin Halley just 6:11 into the contest. However, the Pride answered just over four minutes later and the contest remained tied until the closing minutes.
The Blue Hens held an 11-9 advantage in shots, although Hofstra had a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Goalie Renan Thomazo made five saves, including a pair of impressive stops in the early minutes.
