Smyrna 54, Cape Henlopen 8: Wayne Knight contributed five touchdowns as the Eagles recorded a road win in Class 3A action.
Smyrna won its seventh game in a row and improved to 8-2 ahead of the state tournament.
Sussex Tech 48, Odessa 12: The Ravens capped their regular season with a victory to finish at 6-4 overall.
College basketball
MEN, Salisbury 91, Delaware State 78: The Hornets fell to the Division III Sea Gulls to fall to 1-1 on the season.
DSU junior guard Domini Fragala led all players with a career-high 31 points. Fragala was 11-for-22 from the field, including four three-pointers. His former DSU high was 28 points vs. Coppin State on Feb. 28, 2021.
Freshman guard Corey Perkins was second on the Hornets with 15 points and dished out a team-high four assists.
Delaware State trailed by 20 points less than 11 minutes into the game and never recovered.
Gary Briddell led four Seagull double-figure scorers with 25 points on seven-for-13 shooting from the field, including five three-pointers on nine attempts, and six-of-seven at the free throw line. Briddell also contributed eight rebounds and six assists.
WOMEN, Princeton 76, Delaware 56: The Blue Hens (1-1) home winning streak was snapped at 14 games in a row as the Tigers extend their winning streak to 24 games.
Ty Battle paced Delaware with 15 points (5-for-8 FG, 5-for-7 FT) and 10 rebounds to register her first double-double of the season. Tyi Skinner followed with 14 points while Lizzie Oleary (6-for-9 FG, seven rebounds) and Jasmine Dickey (seven rebounds, game-high five steals) poured in 12 and 10 points respectively.
College field hockey
Rutgers 2, Delaware 1: The Blue Hens fought to the end before falling to top-seeded Rutgers in the NCAA Division I tournament on Friday afternoon.
Trailing 2-1, the Blue Hens closed within a goal when Grace Hoepfner scored with just 1:04 remaining. Delaware was then able to gain control in the offensive zone — earning a penalty corner with 12 seconds left — but couldn’t score the equalizer.
The CAA champion Hens, who lost to Rutgers, 2-0, during the regular season, finish the season at 13-9. Delaware out-shot the Knights, 8-7, while Rutgers held a 5-3 edge in corners.
The Hens beat Fairfield on Wednesday in a play-in round game of the NCAAs. Delaware leads the all-time series with Rutgers, 20-11-3.
Local football
Thunder Wolves aim for spring: The Thunder Wolves Football Club is going to try to enter the team into the Atlantic Coast Football Alliance for the spring football season, starting on March 21.
“Our numbers appear to be on the rise, but we are still in need of more young, interested guys who would would like to continue play full contact, American style football to join us at our first ever mini camp day workout,” said coach Charlie Darling.

The team is also looking for interested coaches.
The mini camp Day will be held at William Henry Middle School in Dover from 1-4:30 p.m. on Nov. 20. The team will practice again on Dec. 11 and 18.
