Smyrna-Clayton’s bid to reach the Senior League softball World Series fell a little bit short today.
The Delaware state champions lost a 6-1 decision to New Jersey in the East Regional semifinals played in Worcester, Mass.
Smyrna-Clayton finished 2-3 in the regional with two of its losses coming to New Jersey.
New Jersey was slated to face Rhode Island later this afternoon in the East finals. The winner will take on host Lower Sussex on Monday evening in the first round of the World Series played at Lower Sussex Little League.

Pennsylvania 2, Georgetown 1: The Delaware state champions were eliminated from the regional with the tough one-run loss in Bristol, Conn. this afternoon.
Georgetown finished with a 1-2 record in the tournament with both its losses coming by just one run.
Pennsylvania, from Moscow, Pa., moves on to Thursday’s losers’ bracket finals.

MOT 2, Naamans 0: The District I champions opened the state tournament with a shutout win on Tuesday night.
MOT is scheduled to take on District III champion Laurel today at 7 p.m. at Nanticoke Little League in Seaford.
