Smyrna-Clayton posted an 11-6 victory over Felton-Harrington on Thursday night to reach the District I championship game in Senior League baseball.
Smyrna-Clayton (2-1) will take on unbeaten Camden-Wyoming (3-0) today at 6 p.m. in Milford. Camden-Wyoming downed Smyrna-Clayton, 7-0, on Wednesday.
If Smyrna-Clayton wins, the two teams will play a second game tonight to decide the title.
The district champion advances to the three-team state tournament, which is slated to start on Tuesday. New Castle County’s District II is hosting the tourney.
Winning pitcher James Tassone allowed only four hits and struck out six in 6 2/3 innings. He also had three hits, scored a run and threw out a runner from third for the final out.
Also pacing Smyrna-Clayton were Tre Hoisington (3 hits, 2 runs), Jake Macey (3 hits, 1 run), Tyler Lohman (1 hit, 2 runs), Aaron Massey (1 hit, 2 runs), Beau Sensenig (2 hits, 1 run) and Ethan Ricks (1 hit, 2 runs).
For Felton-Harrington, which went 3-2 in the tournament, Elijah Benton (2 hits, 2 runs), Collin Dennis (1 hit, 1 run), Will Cross (2 runs) and Billy Harvey (1 hit, 1 run) led the way.
Felton-Harrington 18, Dover 8: Felton-Harrington stayed alive in the losers’ bracket with the win on Wednesday night.
Winning pitcher Billy Harvey threw a complete game, allowing only three earned runs while striking out eight and needing 81 pitches in the six-inning contest. He also went 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
Brett Clevinger added a pair of hits and reached base three times.

Senior League
C-W/M.O.T. suspended by rain: The District I winners' bracket game between Camden-Wyoming and M.O.T. was suspended by rain on Thursday night.
The contest will resume today at 6 p.m. at Smyrna-Clayton with Camden-Wyoming leading 8-6 in the fourth inning. The loser will then take on Smyrna-Clayton afterward.
Smyrna-Clayton 15, Dover 5: Smyrna-Clayton earned another game in the losers’ bracket with the victory on Thursday.
Smyrna-Clayton (1-1) will host either Camden-Wyoming or M.O.T. today for the right to play in Saturday night’s championship game.
Winning pitcher Delaney Smith struck out eight in four innings while Jordan Fletcher collected a homerun and a triple. Also contrbuting two hits for Smyrna-Clayton were Rachel Brown, Addie Whitaker, Leah Bonsignor and Kathy Vargas.
Dover got hits from Alexa Kelly, Kassiah Booker, Elizabeth Seeney and Emily Hornsby.
Local golf
Garnsey leads in Juniors: Wyoming’s Reagan Garnsey holds a six-shot lead after the first round of the Delaware Junior Girls’ golf tournament on Thursday.
The 14-year-old shot a seven-over par 79 at Georgetown’s Mulligan’s Pointe to lead second-place Meredith Finger of Wilmington, who carded an 85. Kylie Yiengst of Wyoming is fifth in the event, which is slated to conclude with the second round today.
The boys’ Junior state tournament is also being played at Mulligan’s Pointe with Wilmington’s Matt Homer leading by one with a three-under par 69. Andrew Chen of Whitestone, N.Y. is second with a 70 going into today’s final round.
College football
Hens ranked No. 6 in poll: The Delaware football team has received its second Top-10 ranking ahead of the fall season.
The Blue Hens were rated No. 6 in the HERO Sports’ preseason Top 25 poll which was released on Thursday. Delaware was previously ranked No. 5 in the Athlon Sports’ Preseason FCS Top 25.
The Hens are coming off a 7-1 spring season in which they captured the Colonial Athletic Association title and reached the NCAA FCS semifinals.
Coach K.C. Keeler’s Sam Houston State is ranked No. 1 in HERO poll while CAA rival James Madison is No. 2. North Dakota State, which beat Delaware in the semis, is No. 4.
Villanova, which is No. 17, is the only other CAA squad in the Top 25.
College basketball
UD gives Adair extension: Delaware has signed women’s basketball coach Natasha Adair to a five-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season.
Through four seasons with the Blue Hens, Adair has a 71-50 record. This past season, she led Delaware to a 24-5 record and a trip to the semifinals of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament in March.
Delaware defeated Fordham, Clemson, and Villanova to win the WNIT Charlotte Regional. Adair was named the CAA Coach of the Year.
Adair has also served on three USA Basketball staffs, including most recently the 2019 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Cup Team, which won a gold medal.
