Local roundup: Senator girls rally past CR; Smyrna boys hold off Polytech

Dover High overcome a five-point, fourth-quarter deficit before topping Caesar Rodney, 54-51, in overtime in Henlopen North girls’ basketball on Tuesday night.

The Senators (11-2 North, 12-4) used an 11-6 run in the fourth to tie the score at 47-47.

Janiah Baldwin-Eaton (16 points), Heaven Hendricks (12), Sara Benson (12) and Heaven Robinson (10) all scored in double figures for Dover, which swept its two meetings with the Riders this season.

CR was paced by Aaliyah Smith (15), Stacey Deputy (12) and Teri Bell (12). The Riders were 18-of-40 from the foul line compared to 5-of-14 shooting for the Senators.

Smyrna 46, Polytech 33: The Eagles out-scored the Panthers, 18-8, in the fourth quarter to sew up the Henlopen North win.

Sophomore Skylar Curley had 13 points for Smyrna with Glennyce James adding 10.

Kallie Hopkins had a team-high 11 points for the Panthers.

Sussex Tech 51, Milford 14: The Ravens out-scored the Buccaneers, 21-6, in the second quarter to break open the contest.

Maleyah Bell (13), Justice Smack (12) and Alyssa Kellam (10) all led Sussex Tech.

Cape Henlopen 50, Sussex Central 7: Morgan Mahoney netted 20 points as the Vikings stayed unbeaten in the Henlopen North with the win.

Cape Henlopen, which had 26 steals in the contest, got scoring from eight different players.

Laurel 49, Delmar 22: The Bulldogs improved to 8-5 with the Henlopen South victory.

Boys’ basketball

Smyrna 50, Polytech 46: The Eagles took a 36-26 advantage into the fourth quarter before holding off the Panthers.

Senior Kevin Woodruff netted a team-high 16 points with Majesti Carter adding 11.

Xavier Brewington scored a game-high 19 points for the Panthers.

Woodbridge 68, Lake Forest 33: The Blue Raiders were up 32-14 by halftime in the Henlopen South win.

Emanuel McCrea-Mosley tallied 27 points for Woodbridge, which also got 13 points from Bruce Mosley and 11 points apiece from Kenny Newton and Ci-Atrick Stones.

Jackson Starkey led Lake Forest with 12 points.

Milford 58, Sussex Tech 50: The Buccaneers rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to pull out the Henlopen North victory.

Laurel 58, Delmar 49: The Bulldogs downed the Wildcats to pick up a Henlopen South victory.

College basketball

Hens’ Dickey honored nationally: Delaware women’s basketball senior Jasmine Dickey has been named the United States Basketball Writers Association Ann Meyers Drysdale Women’s National Player of the Week.

Dickey averaged 38.0 points, 17.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two games for the Blue Hens. That included a career-high 52-point, 18-rebound effort in a win over Charleston.
