Local roundup: Senator boys improve to 2-0 with 89-40 rout at Milford

The Dover High boys’ basketball team made it back-to-back victories to begin the season.

The Senators earned an 89-40 victory at Milford High on Thursday night. Dover improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in Henlopen Conference Northern Division play.

Woodbridge 81, ECHS@DSU 58: The Blue Raiders (2-0) earned their second Henlopen South victory in as many days on Thursday.

First State Military 47, Odyssey Charter 38: The Bulldogs won their second consecutive game to begin the season and improved to 2-0 overall.

Seaford 68, ECHS@DSU 55: Tyrese Fortune collected 27 points and 15 rebounds as the Blue Jays opened their season with a Henlopen South win on Wednesday night.

Brent Ricketts added 24 points and seven rebounds for Seaford, which out-scored the Hornets, 36-25, in the second half.

Keyon Scott netted 22 points for ECHS@DSU, including three three-pointers.

Wrestling

Smyrna 60, St. Georges 15: Three Eagles posted pins in under a minute as the Eagles opened the season with a non-conference win on Wednesday night.

Hugo Harp (220 pounds), the transfer from Dover, won in 38 seconds, Andrew DeBenedictis-Bayne (285) won in 52 seconds while Bryce Mullen (152) won in 53 seconds. Also winning by fall for Smyrna were Gabe Giampietro (106), Jamar Wells (120), Drew Mayhall (160), Kael Howell (182) and J.T. Davis (195).

College basketball

UD coaches show returns: The University of Delaware Blue Hens Basketball Coaches Radio Show will make its return this season with six shows scheduled from Klondike Kate’s Restaurant on Main Street in Newark.

The shows, which will run from 7 to 8 p.m. and can be heard on WDSD 94.7 FM, Fox Sports 1290 AM and iHeart Radio, are scheduled for six Monday nights throughout the 2019-20 basketball season: Dec. 9, Jan. 6, Jan. 20, Feb. 3, Feb. 17 and March 2.

UD men’s basketball play-by-play announcer Scott Klatzkin will be joined by Blue Hen men’s head coach Martin Ingelsby and a student-athlete for the first 30 minutes, with women’s play-by-play man Matt Janus being joined by women’s head coach Natasha Adair and a student-athlete for the second 30 minutes.

The one-hour show will be held on the second floor of Klondike Kate’s and is open to all fans.
