Seaford High led by only eight going into the fourth quarter before putting away a 78-59 victory over Smyrna in boys’ basketball on Tuesday night.
The Blue Jays (17-1) out-scored the Eagles by a combined 45-25 in the second and fourth quarters as they won their 11th game in a row.
Kashmier Wise netted a game-high 21 points for Seaford with Makel Hubbard (13), Akendre Matthews (12), Brent Ricketts (10) and Careen Bolden all joining him in double figures. Wise made five three-pointers.
Freshman Marice Kilgoe, who sank five three-pointers, scored a team-high 19 points for Smyrna. Two other freshmen, Chase Sullivan (11) and Logan Steele (10), also led the Eagles.
Lake Forest 55, Cape Henlopen 51: The Spartans netted the game’s first 16 points before holding off the Vikings.
Sophomore Darius Miller finished with a game-high 24 points after making eight three-pointers for Lake Forest.
The Vikings were led by Timothy Hitchcock (15), Trey Leggins (14) and Drew Zimmerman (10).
Caravel 84, Polytech 62: The Panthers dropped to 15-4 with the setback on Tuesday.
Dorell Little tallied a game-high 26 points for Polytech with Kyle Gamber scoring 12 and Brett Shelton-Hoskins adding 10.
Indian River 77, Holly Grove Christian 19: The Indians improved to 13-5 with the non-conference win.
Polytech 72, Milford 70: Dorell Little netted 28 points as Polytech edged Milford on Monday night to finish unbeaten in the Henlopen North.
The Panthers (14-0 North, 15-3 overall) out-scored the Buccaneers, 25-21, in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Xavier Brewington and Brett Shelton-Hoskins both added 12 points for Polytech.
The Panthers, who still have two non-conference contests remaining, play the Henlopen South champion in the Henlopen Conference championship game on Feb. 25. The contest is slated for 1 p.m. at Dover High.
Jayden Norman (19), Neysen Legros (15) and Ethan Wilkins (14) paced Milford.
Girls’ basketball
Cape Henlopen 45, Caesar Rodney 32: The Vikings improved to 13-0 in the Henlopen North with the victory.
Caravel 67, Delmarva Christian 44: The Buccaneers led by nine at halftime before pulling away in the second half
Senior Ainsley Bell, who recently scored her 1,000th point, scored 23 points with six rebounds and five blocked shots for Delmarva Christian.
Holly Grove Christian 33, Indian River 18: The Indians dropped a non-conference decision on Tuesday.
College basketball
MEN, Norfolk State 97, Delaware State 58: The Spartans won their 15th game in a row over the Hornets.
The Spartans (7-2 MEAC, 18-7 overall) won their fourth straight game while Delaware State (3-6 MEAC, 5-19 overall) dropped its second in a row.
O’Koye Parker continued his recent hot streak for Delaware State, coming off the bench to score a team-high 19 points, highlighted by four three-pointers on six attempts. Parker has tallied 59 points and 11 three-pointers (on 16 attempts) in the last three games.
Martaz Robinson scored in double-figures for the seventh straight game with 12 points (8-of-9 FT), while Raymond Somerville added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Hornets.
Parker was named the MEAC Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week. The Wilmington native leads DSU with 32 three-pointers on 64 attempts.
Hornets’ Brooks honored again: Delaware State freshman guard Savannah Brooks has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.
In two games, Brooks scored 27 points highlighted by a 17-point performance against Howard.
College lacrosse
DSU goalie honored: Delaware State goalkeeper Yeda Couto-Erickson was named the Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week by the Atlantic Sun Conference.
She posted seven saves and recorded a .700 save percentage in 45 minutes between the pipes to help lead the Hornets to a season-opening 16-4 victory over Howard last Saturday.
