Local roundup: Royals defeat Caravel 3-1 in volleyball

Delmarva Christian won the final two sets to post a 3-1 victory over Caravel in volleyball on Thursday evening.

The Royals (14-3) won by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18 in picking up their 14th win in their last 15 matches.

Elaina Millaway (16 digs) collected 17 kills with Sierra Troyer adding 14 kills, three aces and eight digs. Also leading Delmarva Christian were Makayla Heinrichs (22 assists, 9 digs), Tessa Kwiatkowski (18 assists, 7 digs) and Rachel Fetterman (11 digs).

Sussex Central 3, Indian River 1: The Golden Knights registered a 25-21, 25-12, 24-26, 25-18 win over their district rivals.

Brenya Reid collected 35 kills, seven aces and eight digs for Central (12-3). The Knights were also led by Madelynn McTeer (34 assists), Katelyn Evick (5 kills, 2 aces) and Makenna Messina (11 digs).

Delaware Military 3, Cape Henlopen 2: The Vikings forced a fifth set before the Seahawks took the 20-25, 25-8, 25-16, 25-20, 15-6 victory.

Rileigh Wilson had 22 kills and 12 digs for Cape, which was also paced by Harlee Graulich (29 digs, 3 aces) and Megan Smith (33 assists, 15 digs).

Wilmington Charter 3, Smyrna 1: The Eagles won the first set before the Force took the 19-25, 25-8, 25-16, 25-22 victory on Wednesday.

Anna Richardson had 12 kills for Smyrna, Abigayle Osborne had 14 assists and Gianna Romana added five kills and nine assists.

Football

Laurel 48, Seaford 6: The Bulldogs improved to 5-0 in Class 1A, District II and 7-1 overall with the win in the rivalry game on Thursday night.

Laurel has scored at least 41 points in all but one its games this season while giving up more than eight points only twice. The Blue Jays are 3-2 in District II, 5-2 overall.

Polytech 56, Early College 6: Brett Shelton-Hoskins ran for 170 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers picked up the Class 1A, District II win on Thursday night.

Bruno Nyandemo added 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Dymere Hooks returned an interception for a TD for Polytech.

Appoquinimink 55, Cape Henlopen 27: The Jaguars blocked a first-quarter Vikings’ field-goal attempt and Naseam Griffin returned it 67 yards for a touchdown before Appo (5-3) went on to its fourth win in a row.

For Cape (1-7), Chancler Johnson scored on passes of 65 and 27 yards from quarterback Hank D’Ambrogi. Daniel Saez added a 33-yard scoring run with D’Ambrogi scoring on a one-yard sneak.

Field hockey

Lake Forest 2, Sussex Tech 1: Lacey Hutson’s fourth-quarter goal broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Spartans to the win.

Brynn String tied the contest in the second quarter with goalies Addyson Stewart and Madison Lawson combining for seven saves. Lake Forest finished with advantages of 9-6 in shots and 6-1 in corners.

The Ravens’ Karli Penrod tallied the game’s first goal and Bryannah Coral made seven saves.

Smyrna 7, St. Andrews 0: The Eagles (11-3) closed out the win with a five-goal fourth quarter.

Ryla Wilber collected three goals and an assist with London Bebout adding a pair of goals and two assists for Smyrna, which took 28 shots and 15 corners.

Delmar 10, Padua 0: Maci Bradford tallied three straight goals as the unbeaten Wildcats (14-0) pulled way to the victory.

Ella Shockley scored Delmar’s first two goals with Jordyn Hollamon (1 assist) and Laura Rogers also scoring twice. Delmar took 45 shots and 25 corners in the contest played at DE Turf.

Sussex Central 8, Laurel 0: The Golden Knights blanked the Bulldogs to even their record at 7-7.

Lake Forest 7, Seaford 1: Seven different players scored for the Spartans in their Henlopen South win on Wednesday.

Madelyn Breitenbach made 25 saves for the Blue Jays.

Dover 12, Delmarva Christian 0: The Senators improved to 8-5-1 with the shutout victory.

Woodbridge 6, Seaford 1: The Raiders used a three-goal third quarter to open up a 5-1 lead in the Henlopen South win.

Boys’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 5, Polytech 0: The Riders (7-0 North, 14-0-1 overall) finished the regular season with the Henlopen North win.

Sawyer Ott, Trevor Sullivan, Derek Hawkins (2 assists), Daniel Tebar Gomez (1 assist) and Tate Wisniewski all scored for CR, which needed four second-half goals to put the game out of reach. The Riders out-shot the Panthers, 21-4.

Stefan Williamson made 10 saves for Polytech.

The Riders don’t play again until Nov. 6 when they face South champion Indian River at Sussex Academy at 4 p.m. in the Henlopen Conference championship game.

Dover 3, Cape Henlopen 2: Ismail Ismail’s overtime goal gave the Senators the Henlopen North win over the Vikings.

Kaleb Nobles and Rolando Betancourt-Mejia also scored for the Senators (4-3 North, 7-6-1 overall), who won their second game in a row.

Alex Escalante-Diaz and Nathan Reed combined for five saves as both teams had seven shots and three corner kicks.

Nicholas Panyko netted both Vikings’ gals with Dalson Case stopping four shots.

Indian River 4, Woodbridge 0: The Indians finished 6-0 in the Henlopen South by posting their fourth straight shutout and seventh of the season.

Jose Savala-Saldivar (1 assist), Luke Veirs (1 assist), Dane Shuart and Connor Bird all scored for IR.

Smyrna 1, Sussex Tech 0: The Eagles made a first-half goal stand up in earning their first North win of the season.

Sussex Central 6, Milford 0: The Golden Knights (10-2 overall) finished 6-1 in the Henlopen North with the victory.

Laurel 3, Christiana 2: The Bulldogs netted a pair of second-half goals before rallying for the overtime win on Wednesday.

Delmar 5, Woodbridge 0: Mason Ball netted four goals in the Wildcats’ Henlopen South win on Wednesday.

College soccer

WOMEN, William & Mary 1, Delaware 0: The Blue Hens dropped the CAA decision in their final home game of the season. Lauren Krinsky had eight saves for Delaware (2-4-2 CAA, 5-10 overall).
