Local roundup: Roscoe powers CR comeback; Cape girls' suffer rare lacrosse loss

Chrys Roscoe hit a pair of homers, including a grand slam, with six RBI as Caesar Rodney High downed Laurel, 12-9, in baseball on Saturday afternoon.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Riders (6-4).

Reliever Andrew Rigby struck out eight over the last four innings to earn the win for the Riders, who rallied from a 7-2 deficit. Jaxson Monroney and Griffin Tracy both added two hits.

For the Bulldogs, Kaden Shockley also hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs. Koby Shockley and Ryan Jones also had two hits.

Appoquinimink 5, Sussex Central 2: The Jaguars led 3-0 in the second inning before using a two-run seventh to close out the victory.

Winning pitcher Evan Bouldin gave up only three hits in six innings.

Anthony Cannon and Jaxon Steen both doubled for the Golden Knights while four Central pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

Sussex Tech 9, Kent Island, Md. 2: The Ravens gave up two runs in the top of the first before scoring the final nine runs to pull away.

Jonathan Stokley drove in five runs as he, Rosnell Lewis and Landon Ruark all had two hits. Malikye Wells added a solo homer with winning pitcher Carson Mears striking out eight in four innings.

Indian River 8, William Penn 5: The Indians trailed 5-1 before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Roman Keith hit his second homer of the season while Frank Bunting and Jace Jarmon each had two hits for IR while Roman Keith added his second home run of the season.

St. Mark’s 12, Smyrna 4: The Spartans were leading only 3-1 before scoring six runs in the fifth.

Dylan Wiley had two hits for the Eagles.

Woodbridge 12, Odessa 3: Sam Schroeder had three of the Blue Raiders’ 10 hits with four RBI.

Seth Smart also drove in four runs while Lextyn Wescott hit a two-run homer. Will Hague allowed only four hits in six earnings to earn the victory.

Parkside, Md. 7, Dover 1: The Senators managed only a third-inning run in the non-conference loss.

Kole Turner, who doubled, had a pair of hits for Dover.

Sussex Academy 18, Odyssey Charter 2: The Seahawks scored nine runs in the first inning to take control from the start.

Theodore Layton, Wyatt Skinner (3 RBI), Wesley McLaughlin, Douglas Horton, Hunter Bluto and Whitman Stout all had two hits for Sussex Academy.

Softball

Caesar Rodney 15, Wilm. Charter 2: Lyric Abdul-Rasheed, Stacey Deputy and Sydney Hatch all homered for the Riders in the non-conference win.

Six of CR’s 18 hits went for extra bases. Ashlyn Schmidt, Hatch, and Deputy each had three hits for the Riders, who led 10-0 in the top of the third.

Peyton Shields, who earned the victory, struck out eight.

Laurel 8, Woodbridge 3: The Bulldogs shook off an early 1-0 deficit by scoring six unanswered runs in the Henlopen South win.

Bailey Ullman and Makenzie Whaley each contributed three hits to Laurel’s total of 12 while Makenzie Whaley and Alyssa Brittingham had two RBI apiece. Kylee Hill threw a five-hitter with seven strikeouts.

For the Blue Raiders, Payton Keeler doubled and scored twice.

William Penn 4, Milford 0: The Colonials took control of a scoreless game with three runs in the third inning.

Milford pitcher Khyliah Reynolds struck out eight while Ashley Bullock and Lillie Harrison had the Buccaneers’ only two hits.

Boys’ lacrosse

Cape Henlopen 19, Tower Hill 4: The Vikings reeled off 11 unanswered, second-quarter goals to open up a 15-1 halftime advantage.

Hank D’Ambrogi netted five goals and six assists for Cape (6-1), which bounced back from its first loss of the season. Mikey Frederick (3 assists),

Jacob Schell (1 assist) and Luke Burton (1 assist) all added three goals with Michael Sposato making four saves.

Girls’ lacrosse

Broadneck, Md. 16, Cape Henlopen 13: Broadneck out-scored the Vikings, 8-5, in the second half to break an 8-8 halftime tie.

The loss snapped a 23-game winning streak for the Vikings (8-1), whose last setback was against St. Mary’s, Md. on April 10.

Ella Rishko (1 assist) and Kelly Bragg had four goals apiece for Cape, which was out-shot, 30-22.
