Caesar Rodney High used a four-run second inning to take the lead for good before registering a 7-2 win over Polytech in Henlopen North baseball on Wednesday afternoon.
Alex Bauer had a two-run triple in the second as the Riders (9-8) won their third game in a row. Bauer, Jaxson Monroney, David Dill and Jake Armstrong all had two hits as the Riders finished with 10.
Winning pitcher Tate Wisniewski allowed only four hits and a run in six innings.
The Panthers’ Brett Shelton-Hoskins had a triple.
M.O.T. Charter 12, Seaford 5: The Mustangs handed the Blue Jays a loss in the non-conference contest.
Delmarva Christian 12, Dover 6: The Royals scored nine runs in the first three innings and collected 14 hits in the win on Tuesday.
Alec Rodriguez homered and doubled for the Senators.
Softball
Smyrna 12, Caravel 6: The Eagles used a five-run fourth to break open a one-run game.
Kalissa Andruzzi and Sheridan Price each had two RBI for Smyrna with Kirsten Johnson and Gianna Duca contributing three hits apiece to the Eagles’ total of 14.
North champion Smyrna will host South champion Laurel on Friday at 4:15 p.m. in the Henlopen Conference championship game.
Caesar Rodney 8, Seaford 1: The Riders finished the regular season with a record of 15-3, the most wins for the program since 2010.
Delaware Military 1, Sussex Tech 0: Graceyn Frost fired a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts for the Seahawks, who scored their run in the sixth.
Middletown 6, Polytech 5: The Cavaliers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the contest before winning it with a run in the bottom of the eighth.
Paige McGonigal hit a two-run homer in the seventh while Reese Founds singled home Jax Hackett with the game-winner.
Mara Everton had two hits and Mackenzie Mitchell had two runs for Polytech.
Sussex Central 14, St. Mark’s 2: Madge Layfield and Tatum Otwell as the Golden Knights (16-1) won their 16th straight game on Tuesday.
Layfield, a freshman, recorded her 200th strikeout in 98 innings this season.
Seaford 11, Archmere 0: Jada Evans pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the Blue Jays’ win on Tuesday.
Seaford, which capped off the victory with eight runs in the top of the seventh, got two hits and a pair of stolen bases from Evans and a hit from Zaria Collins.
Boys’ lacrosse
Caesar Rodney 15, St. Mark’s 6: The Riders out-scored the Spartans, 10-5, in the second half to close out the win.
Ryan Carey scored five goals with Patrick Craig added four goals and three assists for CR, which finishes the regular season at 11-4. Jakob Buxton made 14 saves.
Polytech 12, St. Elizabeth 2: Sam Slater tallied four goals and four assists in the Panthers’ victory.
Bret Nowakowski and Zachary Waski added three goals apiece.
Indian River 11, Woodbridge 7: The Indians out-scored the Raiders, 8-4, in the second half to pick up the South win.
Girls’ soccer
Caesar Rodney 3, Dover 1: The Riders scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and finish 7-0 in the Henlopen North.
CR (9-6) will face South champion Indian River in the Henlopen Conference championship game on Friday at 4 p.m. at Sussex Academy.
Allyson Durham netted a goal in each half for the Riders with Gabrielle Davis scoring the final goal. Kylee Elliott made six saves as CR out-shot the Senators, 19-6.
Christina Cashion tied the game for Dover in the 27th minute while Campbell Gibson made 12 saves.
Smyrna 5, Sussex Central 0: Desiree Zapata tallied the Eagles’ last two goals in their Henlopen North win.
Kelly Barr, Jade Balon and Hannah Osbrone also scored for Smyrna (12-3).
Sussex Tech 4, Polytech 0: Hannah Murphy tallied three first-half goals to pace the Ravens to the Henlopen North win.
Angela Miltenberger scored in the second half while Alexandra Johnson made four saves. Sussex Tech finished with advantages of 10-5 in shots and 5-2 in corner kicks.
Delaney Dillon had six saves for the Panthers.
Milford 2, Cape Henlopen 1: Bay Rothermel’s overtime goal gave the Buccaneers the Henlopen North win.
Lila Mergner tied the game in the 76th minute for Milford, which got eight saves from Isabella Hanna.
Josephine Ingerski scored for the Vikings while Julie Heffernan made seven saves.
Indian River 7, Laurel 0: Anastasia Diakos netted three goals and an assist with Isabella Binko scoring twice as the Indians (12-2) capped off a 6-0 South campaign.
Delmar 5, Lake Forest 1: Maci Bradford tallied three goals for the Wildcats in the South win.
Ella Shockley added Delmar’s other two goals while Kelly Davis made 15 saves.
Hawwa Ahmad-Statts scored for the Spartans, who got nine saves from Kyra Moyer.
Sussex Academy 8, Seaford 0: Katherine Portillo (1 assist) tallied a goal in each half to spark the Seahawks.
Tayler Flaherty added a goal and two assists as Sussex Academy out-shot the Blue Jays, 25-1.
Girls’ lacrosse
Dover 17, Concord 5: Superia Clark (6 goals), Kyleigh Dill (5 goals) and Ashtyn Torbert (4 goals, 3 assists) led the Senators to the non-conference win.
Regan Torbert made four saves as Dover held a 32-14 edge in shots.
Memorial
CR to honor Schonewolf: Caesar Rodney High is holding a celebration of life for former football coach and athletic director Mike Schonewolf on Saturday.
The event is slated to start at 10 a.m. in the school’s football stadium.
College football
Three Hens named AP All-Americans: The Delaware football program had three players selected to the Associated Press FCS All-America team, including senior offensive lineman David Kroll and safety junior Kedrick Whitehead (Middletown) named as first-team All-Americans.
Earning a second-team selection at running back is redshirt senior Dejoun Lee. The CAA Offensive Player of the Year and Walter Payton Award finalist rushed for 564 yards in eight games.
College softball
Hens split in CAAs: Host No. 22 James Madison hit three home runs while Odicci Alexander fired a no-hitter as the top-seeded Dukes defeated Delaware, 5-0, at the CAA Tournament.
The Blue Hens, who defeated Hofstra, 1-0, in their first game of the day, will next play Thursday at 2 p.m.
Alexander (12-0) set a CAA Tournament record with 16 strikeout. The Hens were no-hit for the first time since the opening game of the 2014 season against No. 13 UCLA.
Against Hofstra, UD sophomore Emily Winburn (13-2) fired a two-hit shutout. She allowed just two singles while posting her fourth shutout of the year.
Delaware scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brittney Mendoza singled with one out, beat the throw to second on a groundball hit by shortstop by Brooke Glanden (Lake Forest), and came around to score when the throw to first went out of play.
