Local roundup: Riders edge Seahawks in hockey; IR takes soccer win over Central

Peyton Shields’ third-quarter goal lifted Caesar Rodney High to a 2-1 victory over Sussex Academy in field hockey on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the fifth in the last six games for the Riders (6-3).

The contest was tied 1-1 since the first quarter before Shields scored with 7:23 left in the third quarter. Hannah Glanden scored the first goal for CR with Bailey Minear making 13 saves.

The Riders out-shot the Seahawks, 20-14.

Rilyn Lehman scored for Sussex Academy while Kaitlyn Musgrove made four saves.

Cape Henlopen 6, Lake Forest 0: Mackinzie Brown tallied a pair of second-half goals as the Vikings pulled away.

Cape Henlopen finished with advantages of 28-1 in shots and 15-1 in corners.

The Spartans’ Madison Lawson made 22 saves.

Smyrna 6, Indian River 0: London Bebout (2 assists) tallied three straight goals to start the second half as the Eagles pulled away from a 1-0 halftime lead.

Halle Geiger made three saves for Smyrna, which held advantages of 20-3 in shots and 15-0 in corners.

Jazmin Mayfield made 12 saves for the Indians.

Delmar 8, Polytech 0: Baylie Phillips, Maci Bradford and Josie Hollamon all scored twice as the Wildcats improved to 11-0.

Delmar took 39 shots and held an 18-1 advantage in corners,

Jourdyn Johnson made 25 saves for the Panthers.

Woodbridge 6, Dover 0: The Blue Raiders tallied four goals in the second half to break open the contest.

Sussex Tech 12, Seaford 0: The Ravens evened their record at 4-4 with the victory.

St. Mark’s 3, Milford 1: The Spartans tallied the game’s final two goals to break a 1-1 tie.

Molly Masten scored for the Buccaneers while Melissa Mesidor made six saves.

Boys’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 1, Sussex Academy 0: Sawyer Ott’s goal in the 55th minute gave the Riders the victory.

CR, which finished with edges of 10-5 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks, got four saves from Jacoby Sheaffer.

The Seahawks’ Carter Norton made seven saves.

Indian River 1, Sussex Central 0: Cole Veirs scored the game’s only goal in the 53rd minute as the Indians won the district rivalry game.

Kai Kelley made nine saves for IR as the Golden Knights out-shot the Indians, 9-6. Both squads had three corner kicks.

Central’s Justin Glasco stopped four shots.

Cape Henlopen 5, Seaford 1: Nicholas Panyko netted a goal in each half to spark the Vikings.

Aldo Hernandez-Becerra added a goal and three assists for Cape Henlopen, which finished with edges of 16-3 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks.

The Blue Jays’ Isaias Morales Vidaurri scored in the efirst half with Simone Ambrosino making 11 saves.

Dover 2, Laurel 2: All four goals were scored in the frst half before the two teams played to a tie.

Woodbridge 3, Sussex Tech 1: Davis Gonzalez-Gutierrez netted the Blue Raiders’ first two goals in the victory.

Ruben Hernandez-Morales also scored for Woodbridge with Joseph Trejo-Ocampo making a pair of saves. The Raiders held advantages of 9-3 in shots and 8-0 in corner kicks.

Deegan Bean scored for the Ravens with Nicholas Martinez making six saves.

Delmar 2, Polytech 1: The Wildcats edged the Panthers on Tuesday.

Delmarva Christian 4, Salisbury School 1: The Royals scored three second-half goals to break a 1-1 tie.

Seaford 3, Salisbury School, Md. 0: The Blue Jays netted three second-half goals in their win on Monday.

Girls’ volleyball

Indian River 3, Cape Henlopen 2: The Indians won the last two sets to register a 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 15-9 victory.

Megan Smith (3 kills, 6 aces, 14 digs, 31 assists) paced the Vikings, with Kayleigh Mault (10 kills), Kalista Lawson (7 kills, 14 digs), Harlee Graulich (30 digs) and Tatum Friend (8 kills, 6 blocks) also leading the way.

Sussex Central 3, Seaford 0: The Golden Knights picked up a 25-9, 25-11, 25-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Daileeneth Sandoval Ramirez had 10 aces for Sussex Central.

Delmarva Christian 3, Sussex Tech 0: The Royals improved to 9-1 with the 25-15, 25-13, 25-6 victory.

Sanford 3, Dover 1: The Warriors won the first two sets before posting the 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22 victory on Monday.
