Caesar Rodney High netted 16 goals in the first half as the Riders advanced to the second round of the DIAA boys’ lacrosse tournament with a 21-2 victory over Milford High on Tuesday night.

Joshua Cosden paced the Riders with five goals while Jacob Copio and Demetrius Stevenson scored four goals apiece. Jared Wagenhoffer tallied a hat-trick for CR, the tournament’s No. 6 seed.

Jacob Pangle recorded five assists for the Riders.

Cape Henlopen 16, St. Andrew’s 4: The fourth-seeded Vikings won their first round tournament game on Tuesday.

Tennis

CR, Dover girls advance: Caesar Rodney High advanced all five entries into the semifinals of the DIAA girls’ tennis state tournament on Tuesday.

Dover also continued its strong run in the girls’ bracket, sending four entries through to the semis.

On the boys’ side, CR dropped one of its five quarterfinal matches to fall a point behind Tower Hill in the team standings.

After being rained out on Monday, the tourney is slated to continue today with the semifinals at various sites.

At girls’ first singles, CR’s third-seeded Halle Parker advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over St. Thomas More’s sixth-seeded Arbee Catipay. Dover’s fourth-seeded Victoria Anyanwu is also still alive after posting a 6-4, 6-2 win over fifth-seeded Claire Dignazio of Tower Hill.

Other winners for the Riders in the girls’ tournament were Natsha Sijan (second singles), Nora Frederick (third singles), Katherine Tamesis-Macaela Thorogood (first doubles) and Piper Casey-Chloe Mangubat (second doubles).

Also advancing for the Senators were Aspen Ozer (second singles), Hayley Scheir-Kaitlin Canalichio (first doubles) and Jing Rhue Lin-Erin Biddle (second doubles).

CR’s second-seeded Rishi Gundakaram advanced at first singles but needed three sets to top No. 7 Ted Fairfield of Wilmington Charter, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

The Riders’ other entries to reach the semifinals are David Haynes (second singles), Garrett Wrede (third singles) and Yash Patel-Francis Tamesis (second doubles). Tower Hill is the first in the teams standings with 15 points, followed by CR (14) and Wilmington Charter (13).

Golf

Henlopen tourney postponed: The Henlopen Conference golf tournament was postponed because of wet playing conditions on Tuesday.

It is now slated to be played on Friday, starting at 8 a.m., at Dover’s Maple Dale Country Club.

Baseball

Polytech 10, Caesar Rodney 0: Joey Haass had six strikeouts in four innings to lead the Panthers in the Henlopen Conference Northern Division win.

Cole Garey hit a homered for Polytech and added three RBIs. Miguel Rivera and Brent Buckson each doubled for the Panthers.

St. Thomas More 10, McKean 8: Matt Torbert drove in the winning run as the Ravens needed eight innings to earn the nonconference victory.

Patrick Magee and Ben Stant each drove in a pair of runs for St. Thomas More.

St. Mark’s 3, Milford 2: The Buccaneers dropped a nonconference game despite a late rally by scoring two runs in the seventh.

William Kimmel had an RBI-single during the late rally.

College baseball

11 Hens honored: The University of Delaware placed 11 players on the All-Colonial Athletic Association baseball teams announced Tuesday afternoon.

Senior relief pitcher Burk FitzPatrick, senior outfielder Jordan Glover, and sophomore first baseman Nick Patten each earned first team All-CAA honors.

Senior shortstop Jeremy Ake, senior catcher Brian Mayer, junior starting pitcher Ron Marinaccio and senior designated hitter Doug Trimble were named to the second team, while sophomore outfielder Kevin Mohollen, junior third baseman Diaz Nardo (Cape Henlopen High), junior outfielder Calvin Scott and senior infielder Nick Tierno were named as third team Selections.
