Polytech’s Courtney Turner goes for a layup against DelCastle’s Aiyla Green in the first quarter at Polytech. Delaware state News/Marc Clery[/caption] Three players finished in double figures as Polytech High downed Delcastle, 61-44 in nonconference girls’ basketball on Tuesday evening.
The victory was the seventh in a row for the Panthers (7-2), who matched their win total for all last season.
Yaa Afriyie had 19 points, Jazmin Kellam scored 15 and Courtney Turner added 13 for Polytech. The Panthers opened up a 19-point advantage after three quarters.
Cape Henlopen 39, Caesar Rodney 35: The Vikings knocked off the Riders in a Henlopen North contest.
It was the second straight season that Cape (4-3 North, 5-5) beat CR (5-2, 5-6) in Lewes.
Dover 53, Wilm. Friends 41: The Senators outscored the Quakers, 23-5, in the third quarter to overcome a three-point halftime deficit in the nonconference win.
Jacarra Jackson (15) and Tamyah Jones (10) paced Dover (4-6).

Woodbridge limited the Buccaneers to only seven points over the final three quarters.
Appoquinimink 64, Smyrna 41: The Eagles jumped out to an early six-point lead only to have the Jaguars answer with a 27-7 run in the second quarter.
Jayla Smith netted 22 of Smyrna’s points.
Boys’ basketball
Caesar Rodney 57, Woodbridge 52: The Riders held an 11-point lead after three quarters before picking up the victory.
Davionne Robinson netted 21 points for CR (7-2) while Shafter Clark tallied 14 points after sinking three of the Riders’ seven three-pointers. John Lassiter added 11 points.

Cape Henlopen 67, Delcastle 51: A 25-11 second-quarter run put the Vikings in control of the nonconference victory.
Randy Rickards (18 points), Ian Robertson (15), Skylar Johnson (13) and Izaiah Dadzie (11) paced Cape (9-2) to its fifth win in a row.
William Penn 65, Dover 53: Eden Davis (19 points) and Javon Peace (14) paced the Senators in the nonconference loss.
The Colonials built a 49-35 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
Sussex Tech 73, North Caroline, Md. 58: Ricky Kane tallied 18 points as the Ravens notched their third win in a row.
Devon Reynolds (12) and Jaquan Burton (11) also scored in double figures for Sussex Tech, which sank six three-pointers in the victory.
Sussex Central 60, ECHS@DSU 54: The Golden Knights outscored the Hornets, 21-13, in the fourth quarter to rally for the nonconference win.
Ryhlee Matthews (19), Jahlier Pettyjohn (17) and Isaac Pettit (14) led Sussex Central.
Camyron Jones tallied a team-high 19 points with five three-pointers for ECHS@DSU with Stephan Wright scoring 12.
Appoquinimink 94, First State Military 38: Zion Lofland netted 16 points for the Bulldogs in the nonconference loss.
Worcester Prep 50, Delmar 49: Brooks Parker netted 20 points while Truvor Beale added 14 in the Wildcats’ nonconference loss on Monday.
Delmar outscored Worcester, 17-11, in the fourth quarter before falling short.
Tennis
Brengle loses in Australia: Dover’s Madison Brengle dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to ninth-seeded Johanna Konta in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday.
Konta is 10th in the current WTA rankings while Brengle is 90th. The 27-year-old Brengle won her first three career matchups with Konta but has now lost two in a row.
On Monday, Konta posted her victory one hour and six minutes. She had eight aces in the match.
