Polytech High used a big fourth quarter to put away a 67-59 win over Dover in Henlopen North boys’ basketball on Tuesday night.
The Panthers led by only one before out-scoring the Senators, 26-19, over the final eight minutes.
Polytech (3-0 North, 3-0 overall) lost three games to Dover (2-1 North, 3-2 overall) a year ago.
Senior Kyle Gamber, who sank three three-pointers, finished with 27 points for the Panthers while Xavier Brewington netted 22 and Dorell Little added 15. Polytech went 22-for-27 from the foul line while Dover was only 6-for-9.
Junior guard Denim Perkins poured in a game-high 32 points for the Senators after hitting five three-pointers.
Milford 61, Smyrna 51: The Buccaneers (3-0 North, 4-0 overall) took an 18-point into the fourth quarter before staying unbeaten.
Nine players scored at least three points for Milford, led by Andrew Kravitz (11), Ethan Wilkins (11) and J’Zere King (10).
Obinna Coleman (16), Joshua Wright (10) and Chase Sullivan (10) all scored in double figures for the Eagles.
Cape Henlopen 67, Caesar Rodney 61: The Vikings rallied from a four-point halftime deficit in the North win.
Drew Zimmerman had a team-high 21 points for Cape Henlopen, which was also led by Jayden Dukes (11), Trey Leggins (10) and Odin DeLazaro Potemski (10).
Malachi Brinkley scored a game-high 24 points for the Riders with Adam Bailey adding 14.
Sussex Central 59, Sussex Tech 47: The Golden Knights out-scored the Raavens, 26-12, in the second half to pull out the North victory.
Lake Forest 61, Sussex Academy 17: The Spartans jumped out to a 24-5 first-quarter lead before improving to 3-0 in the Henlopen South.
Sophomore Darius Miller netted 20 points for Lake Forest with Jaabir Robinson (11) and Calif Spencer (10) also scoring in double figures.
Seaford 98, Indian River 71: The Blue Jays used a 32-15 run in the fourth quarter to clos eout the South victory.
Brent Ricketts (24), Careen Bolden (19), Aviyon Matthews (15) and Zion Mifflin (15) all scored in double figures for Seaford. Mifflin hit five of the Jays’ 10 three-pointers.
Brendon Bradford netted a game-high 25 points for the Indians, making four three-poiters and going 11-for-11 from the foul line. Rashad Hopins added 10 points.
Laurel 56, Woodbridge 40: The Bulldogs (2-0) posted the win in their South opener.
Girls’ basketball
Dover 63, Polytech 53: The Senators led by only two before out-scoring the Panthers, 21-13, in the fourth quarter of the Henlopen North win.
Ashtyn Torbert sank four three-pointers and netted 20 points for Dover. Sara Zionna Bensopn had 13 points while Lily Harper scored 10.
Lake Forest 55, Sussex Academy 22: The Spartans opened up a 38-12 advantage by halftime in the South victory.
Kirja Hickman tallied 12 points with Khyla Tilghman adding 10.
The Seahawks got 12 points from Alyssa Oscar.
Cape Henlopen 59, Caesar Rodney 27: The Vikings raised their record to 3-0 in the North.
Early College 44, Delmar 39: The Hornets improved to 4-0 with the Henlopen South win.
Woodbridge 67, Laurel 22: The Blue Raiders tallied 27 points in the third quarter alone of their South victory.
Sussex Tech 45, Sussex Central 29: The Ravens out-scored the Golden Knights, 31-14, in the second half to pull away to the North victory.
Alyssa Kellam scored a team-high 18 points for Sussex Tech.
Takyla Davis tallied a game-high 16 points for Sussex Central.
Smyrna 53, Milford 19: The Eagles led 30-4 by halftime before winning their second in a row.
Kai Burnette (15), Amiyah Ellerbe (10) and Taleny Pierce (10) all paced Smyrna.
College basketball
MEN, Wagner 58, Delaware State 51: The Seahawks scored the last nine points of the game to post a hard-fought win over the Hornets.
Wagner (6-4) won its second game in a row while the Hornets (1-11) dropped their 10th straight.
Delaware State led 51-49 when Brandon Stone knocked down a three-point shot with 2:27 left. After Brandon Brown made a free throw to pull Wagner to within a point, Delonnie Hunt hit a layup off a Hornet turnover to give the Seahawks the lead for good, 52-51, with 1:41 remaining.
Wagner scored on its next position to pull ahead 54-51, and hit four free throws in the final 19 seconds to seal the win.
Stone led all players with 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field, including two three-pointers on five attempts. Hornet forward Kyle Johnson tallied 10 points, and season-highs of 10 rebounds and five blocks.
There were 13 lead changes and 11 ties in the game. Wagner was ahead by as many as seven points in the first half, and held a 28-25 lead at the break.
Delaware State’s biggest lead was three points, 38-35, after Jevin Muniz (7 points) hit two free throws at the 12:15 mark of the second half.
College football
Two more honors for Hens: For the second time in as many weeks, Delaware’s Johnny Buchanan and Kedrick Whitehead earned All-America recognition as they were named Stats Perform FCS All-Americans.
Buchanan, who has received three All-American accolades this postseason, was selected to the first team, while Whitehead earned a second-team nod.
