Polytech High rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to down Cape Henlopen, 77-72, in Henlopen North boys’ basketball on Thursday night.
The Panthers (13-0 North, 14-3 overall), who clinched the North title on Tuesday, out-scored the Blue Jays, 23-13, in the fourth quarter.
Kyle Gamber and Dorell Little tallied 24 points apiece for Polytech with Brett Shelton-Hoskins adding 17. Gamber went 8-for-8 from the foul line as the Panthers hit 17-of-22 free throws as a team.
Cape Henlopen got a game-high 30 points from Drew Zimmerman. Trey Leggins (11) and Odin DeLazaro Potemski (10) also scored in double figures.
Dover 91, Milford 68: Senior Jaheim Harrell erupted for a career-high 50 points in the Senators' North victory.
Harrell finished with 23 of Dover's 40 field goals in the contest, including three three-pointers. He tallied 21 of the Senators' 33 fourth-quarter points.
Kendall Abrams added 14 points for Dover.
Smyrna 52, Sussex Tech 46: The Eagles went up 27-14 by halftime before registering thier second North win.
Seaford 112, Delmar 60: Makel Hubbard tallied 41 points and 11 steals as the Blue Jays broke the century mark for the second straight game.
Brent Ricketts added 31 points with six steals for Seaford.
The Wildcats were led by Emanuel Ortiz Villaman (20) and Prince Daniel Brown (13).
Indian River 82, Sussex Academy 24: The Indians opened up a 23-2 first-quarter lead en route to the Henlopen South win.
Brendon Braford (21), Jeremiah Dennis (13) and Jamison Bender (12) all paced IR.
Quentin Bowman led the Seahawks with 13 points.
Laurel 66, Lake Forest 52: The Bulldogs improved to 13-4 with the Henlopen South victory.
Woodbridge 58, Early College 44: The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 31-19 halftime lead before posting the South win.
Jeremy Fletcher netted 19 points and Bruce Mosley scored 11 for Woodbridge, which won its third straight game to even its record to 9-9.
Newark Charter 73, Delmarva Christian 48: Malachi Light and Carter Breasure had 17 points apiece for the Royals in the loss.
Girls’ basketball
Cape Henlopen 62, Polytech 43: The Vikings led by only six before out-scoring the Panthers, 62-43, in the fourth quarter as they wrapped up the Henlopen North title.
It’s the fifth season in a row that Cape Henlopen has captured the division crown.
Freshman Amalia Frutchman collected 18 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots for the Vikings while Faith Re (16 points) and Hayden Hudson (11 rebounds, 4 assists) also led the way.
Sky Naranjo led the Panthers with 14 points while Sierra Henry had 11.
Smyrna 50, Sussex Tech 44: The Eagles out-scored by 10 in the second half to rally for the North win.
Jayde Rivera (11), Talaney Pierce (10) and Amiyah Ellerbe (10) all reached double figures for Smyrna.
Dover 58, Milford 30: The Senators out-scored the Buccaneers, 26-5, in the third quarter to put away the North victory.
Delmar 41, Seaford 9: The Wildcats improved to 7-9 with the Henlopen South victory.
Indoor track & field
Smyrna, Cape take Henlopen titles: Smyrna High won the girls’ team title with Cape Henlopen taking the boys’ team crown as the Henlopen Conference indoor track & field meet wrapped up on Thursday.
The Eagles finished with 156 points to out-distance second-place Cape Henlopen (103) in the girls’ meet. Cape Henlopen totaled 147 points while second-place Caesar Rodney had 91 points.
The event was held at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
