Local roundup: Panthers nip Padua in girls lax, Laurel edges Milford in softball

Madi McKay’s six goals paced Polytech High to a 16-14 victory over Padua Academy in a girls’ lacrosse nonconference matchup.

Polytech trailed 8-7 at halftime before outscoring the Pandas 9-6 in the second half. Cecilia Carter netted four goals for the Panthers and Holly Rembold had a hat-trick.

Claire Fuchs scored twice while Mackenzie Estrada had a goal and two assists.

Sussex Tech 13, Indian River 10: The Ravens overcame a three-goal halftime deficit for the victory on Friday,

Kathryn Giles netted seven goals while Morgan Johnson had three for Sussex Tech. Kealey Allison scored seven goals for Indian River.

Boys’ lacrosse

Lake Forest 19, Sussex Academy 6: Kade Collins scored 10 goals while Kurt Moyer recorded a hat-trick for the Spartans.

Reese Yost and Isaiah Redman each scored twice. Dylan Auen and Kristopher Thompson had a goal each to round out the Lake Forest scoring.

M.O.T. Charter 12, Sussex Tech 10: Nathaniel Quillin tallied six goals but the Ravens dropped the nonconference matchup.

Delmarva Christian 11, Woodbridge 10: The Royals edged the Blue Raiders in a tight contest on Friday afternoon.

Softball

Laurel 11, Milford 10: Rachel Calloway hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the sevent as the Bulldogs won the Henlopen Conference Southern Division matchup.

Couri Smith had a homer while Kaegen Brittingham, Nicole Patille and Morgan Brumbley each had a multi-hit day. Patille struck out 11 in the circle.

Kalaysia Reynolds and Julia Reed each doubled for Milford.

Delmar 11, Woodbridge 1: Angelina Arter led the Delmar offense with two hits and five RBI.

Jordan Moore and Paige Lynch added two hits apiece for the Wildcats. Woodbridge was led by Taylor Scott’s two hits.

Smyrna 10, Dover 4: The Eagles scored six runs in the final two innings to earn the win in a game contested on Thursday.

Kayla Wilson paced Smyrna with three hits while Sara Miller had a pair. Miller belted a three-run home run.

Katelyn Crowe led Dover with a two-hit game.

Soccer

Sussex Tech 1, Appoquinimink 0: Valencia Whealten made 10 saves to record the shutout while Hannah Murphy had the game-winning goal.

Dover 3, Polytech 1: Three different players scored as the Senators won a game played on Thursday night.

Aimee Petitdemange netted the opening goal before Tamyah Jones doubled the lead before halftime. Sydni Warman added an insurance goal in the second half.

Jennah Morris tallied the goal for Polytech.

Baseball

Lake Forest 5, Seaford 1: Cameron Beulah recorded the win by pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts.

Seth Parker and Josh Sivak had two-hit games while Gabe Martin drove in a pair. Jacob Waldridge had a RBI-single for Seaford.

Delmar 10, Woodrbidge 0: The Wildcats earned the Henlopen South win in five innings.

Linden Curry pitched a two-hit shutout while Carson Phillips doubled for Delmar.

Delmarva Christian 13, McKean 2: The Royals scored six runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth in the nonconference victory.

College baseball

Delaware 5, UNC-Wilmington 3: Behind six strong innings (two unearned runs) from RHP Kyle Hinton and a two-run home run by Nick Patten, Delaware downed the Seahawks.

The victory pushes Delaware (16-14, 4-3 CAA) into a virtual tie with UNCW for third place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings.

The Seahawks (20-13, 4-3 CAA) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two and one-half innings Friday, scoring a pair of unearned runs.

Facing the slim deficit, Delaware went to work in the third inning scoring three runs. Shortstop Vinny Vaccone singled to begin the inning and advanced to third on a Kevin Mohollen double. Vaccone scored the inning’s first run on an infield single by Erik Bowren. Down just 2-1, outfielder Kyle Baker hit a groundball that UNCW failed to record an out. On the play Mohollen scored, Bowren advanced to second and Baker was safe at first.

After a double play, Calvin Scott beat out an errant throw for the inning’s final run.

The game remained 3-2 until the bottom of the fifth inning. After a Baker two-out walk, Patten launched a towering drive off the batters eye in dead-center. The blast was his team-leading fourth of the season.

UNCW added an unearned run in the seventh, but senior James Meeker was able to strand a pair of runners in scoring position in eighth, before tossing a 1-2-3 ninth.

Softball

Wesley splits with Frostburg State: Abbey Masse pitched seven innings of five-hit ball in a 201 CAC victory for the Wolverines before they fell 8-7 in the nightcap.

Brandi Dalious went 1-for-3 with an RBI-double which proved to be the game-winning run. The Wolverines only had a pair of hits in the win. Dalious also doubled twice in game two with three RBI.

Women’s lacrosse

Wesley 15, Southern Virginia 14: Fallon Fore’s four goals paced the Wolverines in the CAC matchup.

Paige Brehm scored three times while Bailey Grey and Maddison Cypher each netted a pair of goals.
