Milford, which beat the Vikings in its second-straight season opener, hosts North County, Md. next Friday night on its Hall of Fame night.
Sussex Central 39, William Penn 14: The Golden Knights led 24-6 by halftime before picking up the season-opening win on Saturday.
P.J. Henry ran for three touchdowns with Troy Morris throwing for two for Central.
Seaford 41, Col. Richardson, Md. 14: A year after finishing 7-3, the Blue Jays opened with a road victory on Friday.
McKean 44, Polytech 38: Shaquille Lebrew caught three touchdown passes, including an 18-yarder for the game-winner in the final minute, as the Highlanders pulled out the victory over the Panthers in their season opener on Friday night.
Quarterback Makeevis Rogers threw four scoring passes and ran for a pair to pace McKean.
Bruno Nyandemo and Brett Shelton-Hoskins scored two touchdowns each while Isaac Balcerake threw three scoring passes, including ones to Simon Blacerak and Jalen Anderson. It was Anderson’s 44-yard TD reception from Balcerak that gave Polytech its 38-36 advantage in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers were making their debut under coach David Eilers, who is beginning his second stint in the position. Polytech next plays on Sept. 16 when it hosts First State Military.
College volleyball
Delaware State 3, Hartford 0: The Hornets extended their home winning streak to 16 matches in a row with the 25-8, 25-15, 25-13 win on Friday night in the opening match of the Delaware State Invitational.
Alondra Maldonado led Delaware State (2-2) with eight kills on 14 attacks (.357), while Karen Cordero and Sydney Lewis tallied six kills each. Lewis also led all players with five blocks, giving her 14 in the last two matches.
Delaware State’s Jasmal Cruz recorded a match-high nine digs and also tied with teammate Malgorzata Andersohn for the high with three aces.
College field hockey
American 2, Delaware 1: The Blue Hens fell to 1-2 with the road loss on Friday.
Just after the 50-minute mark, Delaware capitalized off a ball inside the circle as Sian Emslie fired a shot that caromed off a defender’s stick and in for a score to tie the tied the contest at 1-1.
But the Eagles broke the tie for good on a goal eight minutes later.
Goalie Lizzie Gaebel faced 12 shots and made five saves.
