The Dover High baseball team rallied to tie the game from a seven-run deficit but ended up falling 14-7 to Middletown in a nonconference baseball contest Saturday afternoon.
Zak Sophy hit a three-run home run for Middletown in the top of the sixth to break a 7-7 tie. Middletown scored five runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh.
Dover trailed 7-0 early but used a seven-run fourth inning to tie it. Hunter Chambers led the Senators with two hits, including a triple.
Smyrna 5, Newark Charter 3: Derek Davis hit a go-ahead double in the fifth inning to lift the Eagles to a win in a game played on Friday.
Connor Wilson and Jake Macey each recorded two-hit games for the Smyrna offense.
Softball
Cape Henlopen 10, Gloucester Catholic, N.J. 0: Abby Marsh pitched a two-hit shutout for the Vikings with nine strikeouts.
Alivia Heers homered for the Vikings while Kenna Justice and Marsh added a double apiece. Bri Windish, Marsh and Justice each knocked in a pair of runs while Milena Buehler and Eden Frederick also had an RBI.
College lacrosse
MEN, Delaware 11, Towson 10: Eight players scored a goal as Mark Bieda led Delaware (7-5, 1-2 CAA) with three goals on five shots, in addition to two assists.
Mike Robinson recorded a pair of goals while Kevin Lynch had four caused turnovers and three ground balls and Owen Grant added two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Kilkeary made the most of his start in the goal today as he made 17 saves and had three ground balls in the win.
WOMEN, Delaware 13, Elon 6: Lizzie Hsu netted a career-high five goals to pace the Hens to a CAA win.
Riley Gillin had three points with one goal and two assists. In the net, Mercy McCarthy notched her fourth straight game with 10 or more saves, making 10 stops against Elon and boasting a .625 save percentage.
College baseball
Delaware 5, Hofstra 4: The Hens rallied from a 2-0 deficit and used a four-run sixth inning for a CAA victory.
J.J. Freeman and Joey Carpenter hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to lead the Hens. Jordan Hutchins (Dover High), Jake Dunion and Nick Vera each had an RBI.
Joey Silan pitched six innings for the win while Dom Velazquez (Dover High) threw the final three to pick up the save.
Delaware State 4, Norfolk State 2: Evan Harris (Polytech High) struck out eight to earn his fourth win of the year.
Trey Paige led the Hornet offense with a home run and two RBI. Krew Bouldin and Mike Worthington recorded one hit apiece for DSU.
