Riley McQuaide scored in overtime to lift Dover High to a 13-12 victory over Sussex Academy in Henlopen Conference girls’ lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon.
Grace Gast netted seven goals and an assist for the Senators (11-3) in a contest that was tied 6-6 at halftime.
McQuaide (3 goals, 3 assists), Angela Poole (2 goals) and Ava Niebrzydowski (1 goal) also led Dover, which outshot the Seahawks, 35-22. Britney Miller made seven saves.
Bella Kwan (5 goals, 1 assist) and Clara Elliott (4 goals) led Sussex Academy, which got 13 saves from Grace Scott.
Polytech 17, Sussex Tech 3: Eight different players scored goals for the Panthers (7-6), who snapped a five-game losing streak.
Polytech (7-6) was paced by Madi McKay (4 goals, 1 assist), Cecilia Carter (3 goals, 2 assists), MacKenzie Estrada (3 goals), Jazmine Winfield (2 goals, 2 assists) and Claire Fuchs (2 goals).
Shannon Stephan made seven saves for the Panthers, who outshot the Ravens, 32-13.
Kayla Horn (1 assist), Morgan Johnson and Kathryn Giles scored for Sussex Tech with Tabitha Harris making 11 saves.
Cape Henlopen 19, Caesar Rodney 0: The Vikings tallied 14 first-goal goals before registering the Henlopen win.
BOYS, Sussex Tech 19, Polytech 9: Nathaniel Quillin tallied six goals and four assists to pace the Ravens to the Henlopen North victory.
Sussex Tech led only 7-6 before outscoring the Panthers, 9-0, in the third quarter. Dane Zimmerman (5 goals) and Kolby Wyatt (5 goals, 1 assist) also led the Ravens.
Hunter Severs made 14 saves as Sussex Tech outshot the Panthers, 36-21.
Polytech was led by Christopher Rutkoski (3 goals, 2 assists), Patrick O’Brien (2 goals, 3 assists) and Samuel Slater (2 goals, 2 assists). Christian Brooks made eight saves.
Smyrna 18, Sussex Central 1: Jonathan Guzman (5 goals, 3 assists) led the Eagles to the North win.
Hunter McGuire (3 goals, 2 assists), Jason Zeitler (3 goals), Cullen Porter (2 goals, 1 assist), Hayden Compton (2 goals, 2 assists) and Dakota Kerr (2 goals, 3 assists) also contributed for Smyrna, which got a combined seven saves from Matthew Miller and John Williams.
Milford 9, Indian River 7: The Buccaneers led 9-5 after three quarters before registering the South win.
Landan Hajak and Conor Christie (1 assist) tallied three goals apiece for Milford with Shane Gaglione making 17 saves.
Lake Forest 17, Woodbridge 5: The Spartans cruised to the Henlopen South victory.
Appoquinimink 12, Dover 3: The Jaguars built a 7-1 halftime advantage in earning the nonconference win.
Will Niebrzydowski scored two goals and Raeshawn Alexander had one for the Senators, who were outshot 26-22.
Worcester Prep, Md. 14, Delmarva Christian 2: The Royals dropped a nonconference matchup.
Baseball
Dover 14, Seaford 1: The Senators took control of the Henlopen Conference contest from the start with a seven-run first inning.
Andrew Carney pitched three no-hit innings with seven strikeouts while Chris Dabney (3 hits) and Dominic Valasquez (2 hits) both scored twice.
Dylan Nibblett and Ray Brady doubled for the Blue Jays.
Woodbridge 6, Laurel 5: Troy Haynes’ walk-off RBI single capped off a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh for the Blue Raiders.
Regan Ogden, Dylan Layton and Kolby Rust all had two hits for Woodbridge with Tyler DeFord pitching a complete game to earn the win.
Dalton Perdue led the Bulldogs with three hits while Conor Ellingsworth and Vance Joseph both added two.
Delmarva Christian 3, Salisbury Christian, Md. 2: Michael Briggs’ two-run single in the bottom of the seventh scored Chase Hesson and Wes Hobbs with the tying and the winning runs for the Royals.
Reliever Andrew Workman struck out nine and gave up only two hits in five shutout innings to take the victory. Joseph Jones had two hits.
Indian River 3, Milford 2: Michael Meehan drove in Grant Argo with the winning run in the top of the 13th inning as IR outlasted the Buccaneers on Tuesday.
Reliever Chase Hall pitched 5.2 shutout innings to earn the win after starter J.J. Killen allowed no earned runs with nine strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Brock Wingate and Meehan had three hits apiece for IR while Argo scored a pair of runs.
A two-run single by Milford’s Jaxson Turner in the sixth tied the contest at 2-2. Bryce Greenly and Caden Oplinger both had multiple hits with starting pitcher Chad Reichold giving up no earned runs and striking out six in 6.1 innings.
Softball
Milford 8, Middletown 5: The Buccaneers scored the final four runs to rally for the nonconference victory.
Kalaysia Reynolds was 2-for-2 with four RBI.
Delmarva Christian 19, Salisbury Christian, Md. 8: Jordyn DiFava had a homerun and double as the Royals totaled 16 hits in the win.
Lake Forest 3, Laurel 0: The Spartans scored all three of their runs in the top of the seventh to pick up the Henlopen Conference win on Tuesday.
Grace Aguilar went 3-for-4 with Katie Stahre pitching a four-hitter to earn the shutout for Lake Forest.
Nicole Patille had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs.
Delmarva Christian 16, Holly Grove 8: Camryn Breasure hit a pair of homeruns to lead the Royals to the victory on Tuesday.
College softball
Florida A&M 8, Delaware State 4: The Hornets dropped their opener in the MEAC Tournament to the defending champion Rattlers in Ormond Beach. Fla.
The Hornets (12-35) will try to stay alive in the double-elimination tourney when they face North Carolina Central today at noon.
Desiree Moreno and Khaliyah Flournory had two hits each to lead Delaware State’s eight-hit attack.
Two Wolverines honored: Wesley College junior third baseman Ashley Royer and sophomore utility player Brandi Dalious (Polytech) were both first-team all-Capital Athletic Conference first-team selections.
An All-CAC second-team member in 2017, Royer ranked fourth in the CAC in hitting (.446) and on-base percentage (.486). She also recorded two home runs with 21 RBI, 25 runs scored, 10 doubles scored and one triple.
In her first season in a Wesley uniform, Dalious tied for eighth in the CAC in home runs (6) and ninth in batting average (.405). Half of Dalious’ 32 hits were extra-base hits while she drove in 29 runs and scored 17 times.
It is the first time in program history that two Wesley softball players were named to the All-CAC first team.
Bowe homers in Coppin loss: Milford High grad Nia Bowe hit a solo homerun to account for the Eagles’ lone run in their 4-1 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday in the first round of the MEAC Tournament.
It was the school-record 11th homer of the season for the freshman outfielder.
