Senior Madi McKay scored seven goals, becoming Polytech High’s all-time leading scorer as the Panthers downed Indian River 20-8 in Henlopen Conference girls’ lacrosse on Friday evening.
McKay now has 246 career goals, bettering the school mark of 244.
Cecilia Carter (5 goals, 6 assists), MacKenzie Estrada (3 goals, 2 assists) and Claiare Fuchs (2 goals) also paced Polytech, which built a 16-4 halftime lead. Shannon Stephan made 11 saves.
Kealey Allison (3 goals), Alexis Webb (3 goals) and Helen Davis (2 goals, 1 assist) led IR while Mya Parks made five saves.
Caesar Rodney 16, Middletown 9: Lillian Ayers netted five goals, including the 100th of her career, to pace the Riders.
Leading by one, the Riders outscored the Cavaliers, 9-3, in the second half as they evened their record at 7-7.
Kacie Cava (3 goals, 3 assists), Noelle Ruggiero (2 goals, 1 assist), Karly Timmons (2 goals, 1 assist) and Kyleigh Comstock (2 goals) also led CR. Ayers, a sophomore, now has 58 goals this season.
Jasmin Hall made 11 saves while Rachel Redman had three for CR, which outshot Middletown, 33-28.
Cape Henlopen 17, St. Andrews 5: Lindsay Monigle collected four goals and three assists to lead the Vikings.
Mallory Jones (3 goals, 1 assist), Annie Judge (2 goals), Meredith Lockwood (2 goals) and Alia Marshall (2 goals) were also multiple-goal scorers for Cape.
BOYS, Smyrna 11, St. Mark’s 7: Jonathan Guzman tallied three goals and a pair of assists to lead the Eagles.
Dakota Kerr added two goals for Smyrna, which got 21 saves from Matthew Miller. The Spartans outshot the Eagles, 28-21.
Dover 14, Indian River 4: Will Niebrzydowski netted six goals and an assist for the Senators,
Dover, which led 10-1 at halftime, was also led by Demetrius Cave-Martin (4 goals, 1 assist) and Benjamin Niebrzydowski (2 goals, 1 assist). Anthony Tunnell made eight saves.
Delmar 15, Milford 9: The Wildcats outscored the Buccaneers by a combined 10-4 in the second and third quarters before picking up the South win.
Jonathan Gaglione (2 assists), Alex Herka and Charles Hayes all scored twice for Milford. Shane Gaglione made 13 saves.
Polytech 16, St. Elizabeth 11: Christopher Rutkoski netted six goals and a pair of assists as the Panthers earned the win.
Zach Trabaudo (4 goals), who recently scored his 100th career goal, Patrick O’Brien (3 goals) and Samuel Slater (2 goals, 1 assist) also led Polytech.
Appoquinimink 10, Cape Henlopen 9: The Jaguars scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to rally past the Vikings.
Andre Currie, Luke D’Ambrogi and Aarin Burton all scored twice for Cape, which outshot Appo, 34-17.
Baseball
Polytech 7, Laurel 0: Austin Biddle allowed just two hits with five strikeouts in five innings as the Panthers blanked the Bulldogs.
Evan Harris went 3-for-3 with a triple and double while Dylan Gros, Mitchell Barter, and Brent Buckson all had doubles.
Trace Hitchens had two of Laurel’s four hits.
Cape Henlopen 15, Seaford 1: Jake Gelof had three of the Vikings’ 13 hits with two RBI and three runs as Cape improved to 12-0 in the Henlopen Conference.
Sam Johnson and Reese White combined to pitch a five-inning one-hitter with Zach Dale going 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI.
Zach Adams had the Blue Jays’ hit.
Delmar 14, Delmarva Christian 0: Jordan Haddaway hit a three-run homerun to spark the Wildcats’ 14-hit attack.
Hunter VonArx and Matthew Rodriguez tossed a combined four-hitter in the five-inning contest.
Mt. Pleasant 15, St. Thomas More 0: John Magee had the Ravens’ lone hit in the loss.
Softball
Polytech 5, Laurel 1: Kaite Burawski threw a four-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Panthers, who scored four runs in the fourth.
Destiny Whaley and Kelsie Burawski had two hits apiece for Polytech (9-7).
Couri Smith doubled for Laurel.
Delmar 4, Padua 3: Paige Lynch’s two-out RBI single in the eighth lifted the Wildcats.
Tracy Pleasanton pitched a complete game to earn the win while Jordan Moore had four hits. Madi Lemon, Hannah Davis and Lynch all added two hits.
Sussex Central 6, Indian River 2: Izebella Grebe had a homer and double to spark the Golden Knights.
Cape Henlopen 7, Seaford 3: The Vikings scored the game’s first seven runs, finishing with 12 hits.
Girls’ soccer
Delmarva Christian 3, Woodbridge 2: Sklar Bennett’s goal in the 70th minute broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Royals the win.
Bennett scored twice while Sara Walton scored Delmarva Christian’s sfirst goal. Layne Morris made seven saves as the Royals held advantages of 18-9 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks.
Alexis Thomas and Brooke Joseph scored for the Raiders with Janae Craft making 15 saves,
Delmar 3, Middletown 2: Logan Walls, Ashlyn Carr and Mackenzie Niblett all scored goals as the Wildcats edged the Cavaliers,
Kelly Davis made 11 saves in a game that Delmar led 1-0 at halftime.
Newark Charter 7, Milford 0: Abbegail Allen made 14 saves for the Buccaneers in the setback.
Smyrna 7, Sussex Central 0: Destiny Zapata (1 assist) tallied two of the Eagles’ first four goals in the North win on Thursday.
Jade Edwards, Hannah Osborne, Laurel Hossler, Marissa McClenton (1 assist) and Cassidy Cook also scored for Smyrna,
Boys’ volleyball
Salesianum 3, Delmarva Christian 1: The Sals downed the Royals by scores of 25-18, 26-24, 23-25, 25-31.
Delmarva Christian was led by Seth Stevens (2 kills, 23 assists), Evan Timko (7 kills, 2 aces, 5 digs) and Austin Giltner (5 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks, 8 digs).
Salesianum 3, Indian River 0: The Sals topped the Indians by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-21.
Alexander Canseco Castro (23 assists) and Michael Barnes (17 kills, 9 digs) led IR.
College baseball
Hens sweep William & Mary: Kyle Hinton pitched a complete-game two-hitter as Delaware blanked William & Mary, 6-0, in the first game of a CAA doubleheader.
The Blue Hens then won the nightcap, 6-5, to improve to 11-9 CAA, 27-23 overall.
Hinton (6-5) struck out 13, throwing Delaware’s first complete game shutout since Ron Marinaccio went the distance firing a two-hit shutout against College of Charleston at the CAA Tournament last season.
The Delaware righty retired 12 of the final 13 batters, striking out nine of them.
