Local roundup: Marshall scores twice as Cape field hockey team wins 4-0

Alia Marshall tallied a pair of first-half goals to pace Cape Henlopen High to a 4-0 victory over Our Lady of Good Counsel, Md. in nonconference field hockey on Saturday.

Amanda Sponaugle and Taylor Smith also scored for Cape (3-1), which led 3-0 at halftime.

The Vikings finished with 28 shots and 26 corners while Good Counsel didn’t have any of either.

Sussex Central 6, Delmarva Christian 0: Madison Sockriter and Courtney Peden (2 assists) each scored twice to spark the Golden Knights (3-4).

Saige Bullock and Bayleigh Perdue also scored for Central while Kianna Kelley made three saves. The Knights held advantages of 26-3 in shots and 20-4 in corners.

Mara Agapito made 19 saves for the Royals.

Volleyball

Newark Charter 3, Caesar Rodney 0: The Riders (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season, falling by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-12, on Saturday.

Leading the Riders were Chloe Therese Mangubat (7 kills, 13 digs), Rachel Moyer (8 digs, 12 assists) and Jessica Crawford (3 kills, 1 ace, 8 digs).

Cape Henlopen 3, Sanford 0: The Vikings topped the Warriors by scores of 25-20, 25-10, 25-12.

Cape was paced by Mikiyah Ennals (5 kills, 3 blocks), Kathryn Knarr (4 kills, 2 aces, 1 block, 5 digs) and Abigail Derrickson (1 kill, 2 aces, 2 digs, 14 assists).

Delaware Military 3 Indian River 2: The Indians rallied from a 2-0 deficit before falling in the tie-breaker.

DMA won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-22, 13-25, 23-25, 15-11.

IR (6-2) was led by Raychel Ehlers (23 kills, 1 ace, 13 digs), Siera Johnson (8 kills, 2 aces) and Marianni Chavez Rodriquez (33 assists).

Delmarva Christian 3, Sussex Central: The Royals prevailed in a close second game before posting the 25-11, 29-27, 25-20 win.

Pacing Delmarva Christian (9-1) were Hannah Picconi (10 kills, 1 ace), Siera Jones (2 aces, 17 digs) and Ashlyn Stonebraker (3 kills, 2 aces, 23 assists).

The Golden Knights were led by Brenya Reid (6 kills, 1 ace, 4 blocks, 4 digs) and Easla Wescott (4 digs, 7 assists).

Boys’ soccer

Sussex Central 8, Delmarva Christian 2: The Golden Knights netted five second-half goals to sew up the victory.

The Golden Knights outshot the Royals, 22-5.

College soccer

MEN, Hope 3, Wesley 1: Darius-David Robinson scorede the lone goal for the Wolverines in the loss.

Jason Sommer made nine saves for Wesley (8-2), which was outshot 15-5.

West Virginia 2, Delaware 0: The Blue Hens fell to 2-7 with the nonconference setback on Saturday night.

College volleyball

John Jay 3, Wesley 0: The Wolverines (8-11) dropped the match by scores of 29-27, 25-22, 25-15.
