The win for the Bulldogs (12-0) sets up a rematch with second-seeded St. Elizabeth (11-1) in the state championship game on Dec. 10 at Delaware Stadium.
Laurel beat the Vikings, 28-14, in last year’s first Class 1A state title game. The Bulldogs have won 15 games in a row starting with last year’s state tourney.
St. Elizabeth 46, Seaford 35: The Vikings held off the Blue Jays in the other state semifinal on Friday night.
Seaford finishes the season with a record 8-4.
Wilmington Friends 49, Lake Forest 12: The No. 6 Spartans trailed by only two points in the second quarter before the No. 3 Quakers scored the contest’s final 35 points to put away the win in DIAA Class 2A quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.
A six-yard touchdown run by Ayden Young pulled Lake Forest (9-3) within 14-12. The Spartans also got a 48-yard scoring run from Kai Rivera in the first quarter.
But Friends (11-0) scored 21 unanswered points to ito halftime with a 35-12 advantage.
Robby Tattersall rushed for 207 yards and two TDS while going 11-of-15 passing for 222 more yards with three scoring passes.
College basketball
MEN, Delaware 72, Colgate 68: The Blue Hens rallied from a 10-point deficit on Friday to win its opener in the Cathedral Classic at The Palestra.
Sophomore Jyáre Davis led all scorers with a career-high 24 points while Jameer Nelson Jr. had 20. Also leading Delaware (2-2) were L.J. Owens had 12 points and added a block on the potential game-tying shot with four seconds left.
Christian Ray pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and completed the double-double with 10 points.
The Hens used a 9-5 run to take its largest lead of the day at 58-50. The Raiders (4-3) pulled within one possession on multiple occasions, but never took the lead again.
WOMEN, Fresno State 53, Delaware 49: The Blue Hens battled back from a 16-oint halftime deficit before falling to the Bulldogs on the first day of the Daytona Beach Invitational.
The Blue Hens (3-2) put together a 15-4, fourth-quarter run to pull within one at 50-49. But Fresno State (4-1) netted the game’s final three points to put away the victory.
Delaware outscored the Bulldogs, 30-18, in the second half, while holding Fresno State to only 5-of-26 shooting in the final 20 minutes.
Makayla Pippin paced Delaware with 13 points (6-of-10 FG), nine rebounds and three steals. Kharis Idom followed with 12 points and five rebounds while Klarke Sconiers chipped in with 11 points (4-of-6 FG).
The Hens play Illinois on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to conclude the tourney.
