Sanford School’s Lauren Park hit a shot with three seconds left to win the DIAA girls’ basketball state championship, 51-49, over Caravel Academy on Friday night.

It was the fifth state title for Sanford all-time. The Warriors had not won since 2014.

Sanford led most of the contest but Caravel tied it with 20 seconds left on a three-pointer by Miranda Porretta. Park then scored her 10th point of the game on a shot from the baseline to win it.

Allie Kubek had a double-double for Sanford with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Olivia Tucker was its top scorer with 16 points.

College baseball

Fairfield 3, Delaware 2: The Stags scored a pair of runs in the ninth to deal Delaware another defeat on the young season.

In his first start at Bob Hannah Stadium in nearly two years, redshirt junior Brandon Walter was outstanding, allowing just one run in seven-plus innings of work, while scattering seven hits and striking out seven.

Offensively, senior Erik Bowren had two hits and two RBIs, while senior Vinny Vaccone also had a multi-hit performance in the home opener.

The Stags took advantage of a fielding miscue and used two timely hits to score two runs and take a 3-2 lead.

Bowren worked a one-out walk in the ninth, but Delaware was able to scratch out the game-tying run. Delaware fell to 0-12 overall.

Women’s lacrosse

Emmy McGill, Imani Hill, Aniya Aiken, Olivia Summerville, Mia Moseley and Tamrin Swann netted the goals for DelState.

The Hornets had 11 second period shots to finish with a season-best 20 for the game.
