Indian River High edged Seaford, 29-28, in Henlopen Conference Southern Division football on Friday night.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Indians (1-2 South, 2-4 overall).

Local roundup: Indian River nips Seaford 29-28 in Henlopen South game

Indian River High edged Seaford, 29-28, in Henlopen Conference Southern Division football on Friday night.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Indians (1-2 South, 2-4 overall).

In avenging a 12-point loss to the Blue Jays last year, IR also ended a 12-game South losing streak that went back to 2015.

North East, Md. 48, First State Military 7: The Bulldogs fell to 3-2 with the nonconference loss on Friday.

Volleyball

Delmarva Christian 3, Worcester Prep, Md. 0: The Royals improved to 12-1 with the 25-7, 25-11, 26-24 victory.

St. Thomas More 3, North Caroline, Md. 0: The Ravens earned the win by scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-11.

Delmar 3, Salisbury Christian, Md. 0: The Wildcats picked up a nonconference win in straight sets.

College field hockey

Delaware 2, Virginia 0: No. 18 Delaware (7-6) scored early and then added an insurance goal with three minutes remaining while holding the No. 20 Cavaliers (5-8) scoreless for UD’s third shutout win of the season.

Senior Lisa Giezeman tallied her fifth goal of the year in the 12th minute as she collected the pass from classmate Greta Nauck and put it in about three yards out from the right side. Freshman Pia Freudenberger gave Delaware its second and final goal of the contest in the 67th minute off a penalty corner with assists coming from Nauck and sophomore Lotte de Koning.

Senior Sydney Rhodes earned her second career shutout victory while recording three saves.

College volleyball

Delaware 3, Northeastern 2: Junior Maria Bellinger had 33 kills, including the 1,000th of her career as the Blue Hens won the five-set match.

UD improves to 8-11 and 2-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association while NU falls to 11-9 and 4-3 in the league.
