Local roundup: Indian River edges Sussex Tech 2-1 in overtime soccer game

Indian River High knocked off Sussex Tech 2-1 in overtime in a boys soccer contest on Wednesday night.

It was the regular season finale for the Indians who improved to 12-2-1. They face Caesar Rodney High Saturday in the Henlopen Conference championship game Saturday at Sussex Academy (4:30 p.m.).

Sussex Central 3, Concord 2: The Golden Knights earned an overtime victory on the road on Wednesday to finish with a 9-5-1 overall record.

Wilmington Charter 8, Cape Henlopen 0: The Vikings fell on the road in nonconference action to end their regular season at 6-7-2.

Cross country

Moyer, Ledford win Kent County titles: Blaise Moyer of Caesar Rodney and Josephine Ledford of Lake For-est won the boys and girls Kent County cross country championships which were held Tuesday afternoon at Brecknock Park.

Ledford finished the course in 19:00.6 for the girls’ title. She held off Caesar Rodney’s Keely Ardnt who ran a 19:01.4.

Moyer recorded a time of 16:18.0 to take home the boys’ championship. Jake Bole, also of Caesar Rodney, was second in 16:26.8.

Field hockey

Woodbridge 12, McKean 0: A nine-goal first half carried the Blue Raiders in the nonconference matchup.

Woodbridge ended its season on a two-game win streak and with a 6-9 overall record.

College field hockey

Wesley 4, Neumann 0: Four different Wolverines scored in the victory.

Kaila Hindt picked up the first goal unassisted in the first quarter. Goals by Margaret Johnson and Kristen Fuhr followed in the second quarter.

Carly Setting rounded out the scoring in the third quarter. Johnson, Setting and Julie Snow provided assists.

Men’s soccer

Wesley 5, Neumann 2: Andrew Schnaack scores the game-winner with the contest tied 1-1 and four other Wolverines found the back of the net.

Justin John-Langba, Joseph Esubalew, Darius-David Robinson and Jacob Campbell also scored for Wesley.

Women’s volleyball

Cabrini 3, Wesley 0: The Wolverines fell 25-13, 25-17, 25-22 in straight sets on Wednesday.

Elisa Hackendorn and Emily Waldridge each netted five kills to pace Wesley. Lindsay Burg recorded 14 digs.

College track and field

Wesley hires new track coach: Greg Lambert was announced as the new Wesley College head coach for both men’s and women’s track and field and cross country.

Lambert comes to Wesley College by way of Boston University, where he spent the past four seasons as the assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach.

Over his four years at BU, Lambert helped guide the Terriers to 26 Patriot League gold medals, coached three All-Americans, 13 NCAA East sectional qualifiers, two Team USA Championship qualifiers, a USA Jun-ior qualifier and one Olympian.

Lambert went to BU from Ole Miss, where he was an assistant coach during the 2014-15 season.

A certified USA Track and Field Coach Level 1, Lambert completed his undergraduate degree in sports mar-keting at Coppin State in 2006. He then earned a master’s degree in sport management from Delaware State in 2009.
