Local roundup: ECHS@DSU boys top McKean, Hornet men drop 16th straight

ECHS@DSU outscored McKean by nine points in the second half to pull out a 61-53 victory the Highlanders in boys’ basketball on Monday evening.

The victory was the sixth in the last seven games for the Hornets (9-4), who trailed 33-32 at intermission.

Camyron Jones (19 points), Kysair Hall-Muphy (17) and Stephan Wright (17) all scored in double figures for ECHS@DSU. Jones sank four of the Hornets’ seven three-pointers in the contest.

College basketball

MEN, Morgan State 61, Delaware State 47: The Hornets suffered their 16th-straight loss in the MEAC road game on Monday night.

The 47-point total was the lowest of the season for DelState.

WOMEN, Delaware State 62, Morgan State 54: The Hornets picked up their seond MEAC victory of the season on Monday, snapping a four-game losing streak.

UD’s Oleary takes CAA honor: Delaware forward Lizzie Oleary earned her first CAA Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week award.

She helped UD to a split last week, averaging 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 8-for-13 from the field in two games.

Oleary has appeared in all 18 games for the Blue Hens (12-6, 5-2 CAA) and leads the UD freshmen with 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest.
