Delaware State cut a 22-point second-half deficit to two with a little more than nine minutes left, but couldn’t get over the hump in a 76-69 MEAC men’s basketball loss to Morgan State on Saturday.
The loss overshadowed another scintillating performance by Delaware State senior guard Myles Carter, who led all players with a career-high 32 points in his final Memorial Hall appearance. Carter has scored 81 points in the last three games to raise his season average to 16.7 points per game and career total to 1,040.
Delaware State (0-12 MEAC, 2-23 overall) trailed 33-20 at the half, and fell behind 51-29 with 13:47 left to play.
The Hornets responded by outscoring the Bears 23-3 over the next four-and-a-half minutes, and pulled to within 54-52 on a steal and layup by Carter at the 9:13 mark of the second half.
But Morgan State rebounded to score 16 of the next 23 points over the next five minutes, and opened up a 70-59 lead. Delaware State got no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

WOMEN, Morgan State 69, Delaware State 63, OT: The Hornets took the Bears to overtime before falling in the MEAC contest.
Senior guard Janasia Law scored a career-high 21 points while Alexis Moragne and Breazia Robinson added 16 and 11 points respectively.
College baseball
Florida Atlantic 8, Delaware 3: Florida Atlantic scored six runs in a decisive fifth inning rally as the Owls evened the weekend series.
Joey Loynd (2-for-4) drilled his second homer in as many days in the fourth with a shot down the rightfield line for the Blue Hens.
Hornets drop two on road: Delaware State dropped a pair of games to Charleston Southern, 12-4 and 5-0, on Saturday.
Jordan King hit his first homerun of the campaign in the top of the seventh of the opener. King let the Hornets in game one in both hits and RBIs with three and two respectively.
Delaware State was held to only three hits in the nightcap. Bouldin, Trey Paige and Mike Worthington recorded the hits for the Hornets.
College softball
Hens win twice at N.C. State: Hanna Garber had six hits over the two games, finishing a hit short of the cycle in each contest, and Delaware hit five home runs to win both of its games at the NC State Invitational.
The Blue Hens defeated Bowling Green 5-3 before defeating NC State 12-4 in the nightcap.
Brooke Glanden (Lake Forest) had three RBI in the second game for Delaware (8-5).
Hornets swept at Auburn: The Delaware State softball team managed just three hits in 9-0 losses to both Syracuse and Auburn in the AU Plain Tournament.
Third baseman Sandrea Hord had the lone hit for the Hornets in the second game.
College lacrosse
MEN, Delaware 17, Monmouth 6: The 17th-ranked Blue Hens netted the game’s first 11 goals before improving to 4-1 with the non-conference win.
Mike Robinson led all players with seven points, as he scored five goals on seven attempts and added a pair of assists. Clay Miller added four points (3 goals, 1 assist) for his team-leading fourth hat trick of the season while Kyle Kivinski tallied a career-high three goals.
WOMEN, Manhattan 15, Delaware State 8: The Hornets scored the first two goals and last four of the contest, but it was not enough.
Gwenna Gentle and India Rosiere had three goals each to lead the Hornets.
