Local roundup: Dover gives Wilson 200th win; Smyrna boys fall in OT

Dover High shook off a three-point halftime deficit to down Milford, 71-56, in Henlopen North boys’ basketball on Thursday night.

The victory was the 200th at Dover for 12th-year Senators’ coach Stephen Wilson.

Amir Hite, who sank four three-pointers, finished with 16 points for Dover (10-1 North, 13-2 overall). The Senators out-scored the Buccaneers, 47-29, over the last two quarters.

Jaheim Harrell (12) and Tyrone Tolson (11) also scored in double figures for Dover, which had six different players combine to hit 10 three-pointers.

Zachary Johnson tallied a game-high 20 points for Milford with Jordan Green adding 14.

Appoquinimink 64, Smyrna 59, OT: The Jaguars out-scored the Eagles, 16-11, in the second overtime to pull out the non-conference win.

Majesti Carter netted 22 points with Devin DeMoe adding 21 for Smyrna, which was playing without senior Elisha Gregory.  The contest was tied 45-45 at the end of regulation.

Christian Barksdale had a team-high 15 points for Appo, which had four players score in double figures.

Lake Forest 49, Red Lion Christian 32: The Spartans led 24-9 at halftime before picking up the non-conference win.

Jackson Starkey had 12 points for Lake Forest, which had 10 players score in the contest.

Delmar 56, Woodbridge 51: The Wildcats knocked off the Blue Raiders in a Henlopen South matchup to improve to 8-2.

Polytech 74, Sussex Tech 51: The Panthers raised their record to 6-7 with the Henlopen North win on Wednesday night.

Girls’ basketball

St. Georges 54, Caesar Rodney 43: The Hawks trailed by one before out-scoring the Riders, 17-5, in the fourth quarter.

Stacey Deputy tallied 17 points for CR with Nubia Estwick adding 10.

Smyrna 57, Middletown 41: The Eagles used a 22-9, third-quarter run to take control in a game that was tied 21-21 at halftime.

Woodbridge 50, Delmar 9: The Blue Raiders (10-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a Henlopen South victory.

Reghan Robinson scored a game-high 20 points with three three-pointers for Woodbridge.

Dover 75, Milford 16: The Senators built a 44-8 halftime lead before registering the North win.

Laurel 60, Sussex Central 36: The Bulldogs jumped out to a 23-5 first-quarter advantage before picking up the win.

Seaford 59, Sussex Tech 35: The Blue Jays out-scored the Ravens, 34-16, in the second half to put away the victory.

Seaford got 21 points from Amira Tingle and 19 from fellow freshman Kimyra Cornish-Baine.

Wrestling

Cape Henlopen 39, Milford 30: C.J. Fritchman (160 pounds) won by decision and Carson Kamerer (170) followed with a pin in the night’s final match as the Vikings clinched the Henlopen North title with the victory on Wednesday night.

Both Cape and Caesar Rodney finish 6-1 in the North but the Vikings beat the Riders, 51-23, in their head-to-head matchup. It’s the first time the Vikings won the North crown since 1990.

Also winning by fall for Cape Henlopen were Lucas Ruppert (285) and Joshua Wright (126).

The Buccaneers got pins from Ryan Mejia (152), Emily Thode (106) and Vincent Jenkins (113).
