Teshawn Dennard ran for a pair of touchdowns as defending Division II state champion Delmar High opened the season with a 42-14 victory over Cape Henlopen in football on Friday night.
It was the 12th victory in a row dating back to last season for the Wildcats, who built a 28-0 lead by halftime.
Quarterback George Angello also threw for two TDs for Delmar, which got touchdowns from five different players.
Joseph Kirby caught two scoring passes from Jah’Kai Duffy, including a 99-yarder, for Cape.
Woodbridge 49, Cambridge-South Dorchester, Md. 20: The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 42-7 halftime advantage before picking up the season-opening victory.
Middle Township, N.J. 41, Seaford 0: The Blue Jays dropped their season opener on Friday night.
Two games postponed: Both the Polytech-A.I.DuPont and Indian River-Glasgow games were postponed by the storms that went through the state on Friday evening.
Indian River will now face Glasgow today at Milford at noon.
The Polytech-Glasgow contest will be played on Monday but no time or site has been determined yet.
Field hockey
Tower Hill 2, Dover 1: The Hillers scored twice in the final 16 minutes to pull out the win in the season opener for both teams.
Chelsea Johnson broke a scoreless tie at the 21:59 mark to give the Senators their 1-0 lead. Tower Hill held advantages of 15-8 in shots and 11-5 in corners.
Delmar 1, South River, Md. 0: Eighth-grader Maci Bradford scored the game’s only goal in the first half to give the Wildcats the win.
Kelly Davis made six saves in the shutout as two-time defending state champion Delmar won its 26th game in a row. The Wildcats finished with advantages of 15-7 in shots and 4-2 in corners.
Sussex Academy 4, Laurel 3: Elise Westbrook’s goal with 1:58 left broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the Seahawks to the Henlopen Conference win on Thursday.
Isabella Kwan, Chloe Whittaker and Addy Leonhartt also scored for Sussex Academy, which led 2-1 at halftime. Rachael Megonigal made four saves as the Seahawks finished with advantages of 15-6 in shots and 9-2 in corners.
Elya Niblett scored twice for the Bulldogs, tying the contest with 4:05 remaining. Emily Bell stopped nine shots while Erin Carey scored Laurel’s first goal.

Sussex Central 4, Delmar 2: Four different players scored goals in the Golden Knights’ season-opening victory on Thursday.
Central held advantages of 18-6 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks as Watson Dorsinvil made four saves.
Seth Walker made 14 saves for the Wildcats.
Appoquinimink 1, Polytech 0: Colby Niggebrugge’s goal in the 63rd minute lifted the Jaguars to the victory.
Christian Cote made 15 saves for the Panthers, who were outshot 18-2. Appo also held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
Volleyball
Delmarva Christian 3, Cape Henlopen 2: The Royals rallied to win the final two games and post the 25-15, 20-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-6 victory.
Leading Delmarva Christian were Hannah Picconi (9 kills, 2 aces, 3 blocks, 5 digs), Ashlyn Stonebraker (2 kills, 4 aces, 7 digs, 23 assists), Mia Berger (6 kills, 4 aces, 10 digs) and Louisa Re (5 kills, 1 ace, 13 digs).
The Vikings were paced by Mikiyah Ennals (11 kills, 3 aces), Abigail Derrickson (1 kill, 5 digs, 18 assists) and Erin Morrisey (5 kills, 4 aces).
Caesar Rodney 3, Concord 0: The Riders opened the season with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 victory.
Leading CR were Chloe Therese Mangubat (10 kills, 12 digs), Jessica Crawford (8 kills, 5 digs) and Rachel Moyer (2 aces, 4 digs, 11 assists).
Archmere 3, Smyrna 0: The Auks downed the Eagles by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 26-24 in the nonconference match.
Indian River 3, Worcester Prep 0: The Indians opened the season with a 25-11, 25-2, 25-13 nonconference win.
IR was paced by Raychel Ehlers (11 kills, 2 aces), Jessica Amezcua (7 aces) and Skylar Kneller (4 kills, 3 aces).
College soccer
MEN, Wesley 3, McDaniel 2: Two second-half goals by Caesar Rodney High grad Chimaobi Ikwuagwu gave the Wolverines the win.
Wesley’s 4-0 start is the best in program history and marks the first time the Wolverines have won four in a row since 2015.
The Wolverines got their first goal when Danny Garza played in a free kick from outside the box and Caden Sundermann outjumped the McDaniel defense and head in the ball.
College volleyball
Hens win two in tourney: In a thrilling, back-and-forth battle, the Blue Hens defeated Marist, 24-26, 25-16, 25-27, 25-20, 16-14, on Friday in its first match in the Blue Hen Invitational.
Delaware then downed Grand Canyon, 3-0, in its second match of the day.
Sophomore Courtnie Roberts posted her fifth double-double of the year, finishing with 58 assists and 13 digs.
Junior Cailey Bracken also had a career day with 15 kills, while also chipping in 23 digs and hitting .297. Classmate Bailey Pearlman continued her surge with a big offensive day with four aces and 16 kills for the Blue Hens.

WOMEN, Penn 2, Delaware 0: The Blue Hens dropped their opener in the Navy Invitational.
