Middletown High edged Caesar Rodney, 3-2, in softball on Wednesday afternoon to hand the Riders their first loss of the season.
Pitcher Reese Founds scattered seven hits to earn the win for the Cavaliers (7-1), who won their seventh game in a row. Middletown scored twice in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Catcher Stacey Deputy doubled and scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to pull the Riders (8-1) within 3-2 but CR was shut out the rest of the way.
Sydney Hatch has two hits, including a double, for CR while pitcher Peyton Shields struck out 12.
Wilm. Charter 7, Polytech 5: Julia MacConnell homered with Rachel Carey adding a triple and double for the Panthers in the non-conference loss.
Polytech’s Mara Everton pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Sussex Central 19, Nandua, Va. 0: Mya Jones had a home run and two doubles with four RBI to pace the Golden Knights.
Kiertsen Anderson (2-for-2) also drove in four runs while Madge Layfield and McKenna Boyle combined on a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Delaware Military 9, Delmar 7: The Wildcats fell behind 9-0 in the top of the third before their rally fell short.
Jordyn Hollamon had three hits, with a double, triple, and four RBI. Zoey Coco and Ashlyn Tapman also recorded two hits for Delmar, which scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Baseball
Middletown 10, Caesar Rodney 0: Quinton Windett needed just 62 pitches to throw a five-inning one-hitter in the Cavaliers’ shut out victory.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Riders (5-3), who allowed only six hits. Graham Buckson had CR’s lone hit.
Lake Forest 10, Brandywine 0: Tristan McCray tossed a five-inning two-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the shutout for the Spartans.
Quade Gannon had a pair of hits with Cole Miller and Leighton Webb both collecting two RBI for Lake Forest, which scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Cape Henlopen 16, Milford 2: The Vikings led only 2-1 before scoring five runs in the third and four more in the fourth of their Henlopen North win.
Cape’s Justin Marsh went 4-for-4 with four runs while Brian Fleming added three more of the Vikings’ 18 hits. Winning pitcher Nick Cox (3-1) allowed only one earned run and struck out five in five innings.
The Buccaneers got a hit and an RBI from Aydin Zimmerman.
Woodbridge 28, McKean 2: Sam Schroeder went 4-for-4 with five RBI and five runs scored in the Blue Raiders’ big offensive game.
Parker Short, Logan Moran, Will Hague, and Christian Quinones all had multiple hits for Woodbridge, which had 18 hits in the contest.

BOYS, Bullis, Md. 16, Delmar 5: The Wildcats dropped to 3-6 with the non-conference loss on Tuesday.
College baseball
Delaware 15, UMES 0: The Blue Hens scored six runs in the first and seventh innings before improving to 21-14.
Six Blue Hens recorded two hits in the 14-hit attack, as Aidan Kane drove home three runs while Joseph Carpenter and Jake Dunion both scored three times.
College softball
St. Joe’s 4, Delaware 3: The Blue Hens dropped a tough 4-3 decision in 10 innings to fall to 26-13.
Hanna Garber had two doubles and two RBI, while Sarah Bessel had a pair of singles and scored twice to lead the UD offense.
College golf
Hornets third in tourney: Delaware State’s first appearance in the Southland Conference Women’s Tournament ended in a third-place finish.
The Hornets a three-round score of 944, trailing only first-place Augusta (902) and Incarnate Word (922) in the six-team event. Anna Ferreyra-Heit and Nattavadee Khunsri tied for fourth in the individual standings to earn all-conference recognition.
College football
QB commits to Hens: Noah Sanders, a 6-foot-2, 213-pound quarterback from Stafford Va., has committed to the Delaware football program.
Sanders is a senior at Brooke Point High. He reportedly also had offers from Old Dominion as well as Ivy League schools Yale and Columbia.
College basketball
UD picks up LaSalle transfer: Christian Ray, a 6-foot-6 wing player from La Salle, announced he was transferring to Delaware.
“Fresh start, new opportunity, forever grateful,” Ray posted on social media.
Ray averaged a team-best 6.9 rebounds with 5.0 ppg last winter for the Explorers. He had a season-high 14 points and 16 rebounds in a loss to the Blue Hens.
Hens’ Jenkins adds to staff:Delaware head women’s basketball coach Sarah Jenkins has announced the addition of assistant coaches Sam Pierce Jr., Bri Hutchen and Cody Gilmore.
Pierce Jr. joins the Blue Hens after five seasons at Appalachian State serving as the associate head coach. Hutchen arrives in Newark after spending this past season at George Washington and the three previous seasons at Stony Brook as an assistant coach.
Gilmore comes to Delaware after spending four seasons as the head women’s basketball coach at Salem University.
