Local roundup: Caravel overpowers Smyrna; CR teams post one-run wins

Brooke Holdsworth hit two of Caravel’s four home runs and had five RBI to pace the Buccaneers to an 11-3 win over Smyrna in softball on Tuesday afternoon.

Caravel (5-0) led only 1-0 before scoring five runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth. The Bucs finished with 14 hits.

Meghan Shirey homered for the Eagles (4-2), who had a three-game winning streak stopped.

Caesar Rodney 2, Laurel 1: Stacey Deputy (3-for-3) tripled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as the Riders (7-0) stayed unbeaten.

Peyton Shields pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Kaitlyn Horton singled home the tying run in the sixth.

The Bulldogs got a six-hitter from Kylee Hill and two hits from Bailey Ullman.

Delmarva Christian 2, Indian River 1: Lilli Showacre scattered seven hits as the Royals edged the Indians.

Delmarva Christian (5-2), which is 3-0 against Henlopen Conference teams this season, led 2-0 after the third.

Kinsley Hall pitched a three-hitter and struck out 14 for the Indians while also going 2-for-3 with a triple.

Woodbridge 12, Dover 4: Kylee Fink (2 RBI) had three of the Blue Raiders’ 14 hits while Parker Keeler (3 RBI, 3 runs) had a homer and triple in the win.

Caroline Scott (2 hits, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Hannah Jefferson (2 hits and 2 RBI) also led Woodbridge.

Jamie Chandler and Jazlyn Roberts each had two hits for the Senators.

Christiana 13, Sussex Academy 1: The Seahawks were limited to only two hits in the loss.

M.O.T. Charter 15, First State Military 5: The Mustangs scored four runs in the second inning to break a 1-1 tie.

Concord 16, Sussex Tech 15: The Raiders scored the game’s final four runs, including a run in the seventh to rally for the win.

Victoria LeCates and Shaniya Lewis each had three hits for the Ravens as the two teams combined for 29 hits in the game.

North Dorchester, Md. 11, Woodbridge 1: Parker Keeler had two of the Blue Raiders’ five hits in the loss.

Baseball

Caesar Rodney 3, Lake Forest 2: The Riders scored three runs in the sixth and then held off the Spartans for the win.

Pitchers Andrew Rigby and Alex Bauer combined on a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and drove in CR’s last two runs. Mason Wrede doubled twice.

Tristan McCray pitched five innings for the Spartans and reached base twice.

Laurel 10, Polytech 4: Ryan Jones hit a pair of home runs and drove in five in five runs to power the Bulldogs.

Royce Scotten and Timothy Joines both added two hits while Timothy Jones pitched a seven-hitter and struck out six.

Cape Henlopen 16, Delmarva Christian 3: The Vikings collected 15 hits while scoring all 16 runs in the first three innings.

Kasey Bell had two hits and scored a run for the Royals.

William Penn 9, Dover 6: The Colonials rallied from an early 5-1 deficit to top the Senators.

Dover pitcher Hunter Chambers struck out seven in four innings and had three hits, with two doubles, and scored twice. Connor Ridgway also had a pair of doubles.

First State Military 13, M.O.T. Charter 2: The Bulldogs scored the game’s final nine runs to pull away from a 2-2 tie.

Jaydan Duncan pitched a three-hitter while Preston Shetzler went 3-for-4.

Seaford 4, Delmarva Christian 0: Ashton Trivits pitched a two-hitter to earn the shutout for the Blue Jays.

Woodbridge 15, M.O.T. Charter 3: The Blue Raiders scored five first-inning runs before picking up the victory at Frawley Stadium.

Smyrna game suspended: Smyrna’s game with St. Georges on Monday was suspended by darkness. It will be resumed at a date TBA with the score tied 7-7.

Girls’ soccer

Caravel 4, Smyrna 1: The Buccaneers netted the game’s first four goals before downing the Eagles.

Cheyenne Donaghue scored Smyrna’s lone goal in the 71st minute. Caravel finished with advantages of 16-7 in shots and 5-2 in corner kicks as the Eagles’ Halle Geiger made 12 saves.

Sussex Tech 9, Laurel 1: Lilly Short tallied three goals for the Ravens, who led 6-0 at halftime.

Esmeralda Garcia-Ramirez scored for the Bulldogs, who got 14 saves from Alexis Boyer.

Woodbridge 7, Seaford 0: The Blue Raiders scored six goals in the first half before picking up the Henlopen South victory.

Delmar 3, Delmarva Christian 0: The Wildcats netted a pair of second-half goals to close out the win.

Sussex Academy 7, Milford 0: Sienna Serpico and Samira Zahraoui both scored twice as the Seahawks won their third straight shutout.

Padua 3, Caesar Rodney 1: The Pandas tallied three first-half goals before topping the Riders on Monday.

Olivia Hudson scored in the 70th minute for the Riders (6-2), who got five saves from Kylee Elliott. Padua finished with advantages of 9-5 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks.

Sussex Academy 8, Seaford 0: Katherine Portillo netted two goals while Tayler Flaherty added a goal and four assists in the Seahawks’ Henlopen South win.

Girls’ lacrosse

Cape Henlopen 20, Milford 2: Molly Mendes (6 assists), Alexi Nowakowski and Maren Buckaloo (1 assist) all scored four goals for the unbeaten Vikings.
Ashlyn Jordan and Hannah Zimmerman both scored for the Buccaneers,

Padua 14, Smyrna 8: The Pandas out-scored the Eagles, 6-2, in the second half to put away the win.

Regan Nacrelli (1 assist), Jenna Davis and Madison Fillo all scored twice for Smyrna with Addison Beamer making 14 saves.

Worcester Prep 19, Indian River 3: Kylie Harris, Lilly Jo Anthony and Caylee Schmidt all scored for the Indians in the loss.

College baseball

St. Joe’s 13, Delaware 9: The Blue Hens (19-11) had their nine-game winning streak snapped with the nonconference loss.

Dominic Ragazzo finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Bryce Greenly (Milford) also went 3-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
