Tim Hitchcock singled home Luke Crouch with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Cape Henlopen High rallied to beat Indian River, 8-7, in baseball on Friday afternoon.
The Vikings scored twice in their last at-bat to pull out the victory.
Crouch doubled in Paris Mitchell to tie the contest. Hitchcock pitched five innings and went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs.
Also for Cape, Brenn Scott was 3-for-5 with three RBI while Josh Reinhold added a double and three RBI.
For the Indians, Ben Cordrey went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. Jace Jarmon was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Chance Hocker homered.
Smyrna 3, Woodbridge 2: The Eagles scored all three of their runs in the fifth to edge the Blue Raiders.
Connor Wilson had an RBI single before Derek Davis followed with a two-run double. Pitcher Liam McGinness allowed only three and struck out nine in five innings for Smyrna.

Sussex Central 13, Sussex Academy 3 The Golden Knights scored 11 runs over the first two innings before earning the victory.
Jarrett Wilkins and Noah Burroughs, who both homered, along with A.J. Cannon all contributed two hits to Central’s total of 13. Pitcher Chet Mariner allowed three hits in four innings.
Delmar 6, Sussex Tech 0: Andrew Callaway allowed just two hits and struck out eight in six 2/3 innings as the Wildcats blanked the Ravens.
Callaway also had a pair of doubles and an RBI for Delmar while Kyler Sheppard, who went 4-for-4, and Bryce Hendricks, who homered, also drove in runs.
Grant Allen :and Rosnell Lewis had Sussex Tech’s hits.
Girls’ lacrosse
Cape Henlopen 17, Dover 4: Cape Henlopen tallied 10 first-half goals before downing Dover in a matchup of unbeaten squads.
The Vikings are now 7-0 after scoring at least 15 goals for the sixth time in their seven contests.
The Senators fell to 6-1 after being held to their lowest total since their last loss to Cape Henlopen 17 games ago.
Smyrna 18, Sussex Tech 2: Madison Fillo, Jenna Davis, Mia Schultz and Cheyanne Scott all netted three goals to lead the Eagles.
Sussex Academy 21, Indian River 1: The Seahawks (6-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with the win.
Shelby Manlove (4 goals, 1 assist) and Macy Steinwedel (3 goals) paced Sussex Academy, which got goals from 13 players.
Kylie Harris scored for the Indians while Caylee Schmidt made six saves.
Boys’ lacrosse
Caesar Rodney 21, Sussex Central 2: Patrick Craig tallied four goals and seven assists in the Riders’ Henlopen North win.
William Li added three goals and an assist for CR, which scored 16 first-quarter goals.
Cape Henlopen 20, Dover 0: Jacob Schell (1 assist) and Thomas Gibbs had three goals apiece in the Vikings’ North win.
Smyrna 19, Sussex Tech 2: The Eagles (3-2) ran their winning streak to three games in a row.
Softball
Lake Forest 9, Woodbridge 5: The Spartans used a four-run second inning to overcome an early 3-2 deficit.
Karly Cain hit a two-run triple while pitcher Grace Hastings took the victory.
Kamryn Spence and Payton Keeler had multiple hits for the Blue Raiders.
Indian River 9, Sussex Academy 2: Kinsley Hall struck out 10 in four innings of no-hit, no-walk relief for the Indians.
Macy Blades had three hits, with a homer and two RBI, while Jaya Shaub had two hits with an RBI for IR.
Indian River 2, Sussex Tech 0: Kinsley Hall struck out 14 and gave up five innings in six shutout innings.
Samantha Derickson’s two-run homer in the fifth broke scoreless tie.
Girls’ soccer
Delmar 10, Laurel 0: Baylie Phillips (1 assist) netted three straight first-half goals for the Wildcats.
Maci Bradford (1 assist) also scored three goals with Mackenzie Carroll (3 assists) adding two for Delmar, which held advantages of 19-6 in shots and 10-1 in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs’ Alexis Boyer made 17 saves.
Sussex Academy 8, Woodbridge 0: Tayler Flaherty netted a pair of goals for the Seahawks, who evened their record at 2-2.
Seven different players scored for Sussex Academy, which led 3-0 at halftime.
The Blue Raiders’ Karla Saldana-Hernandez made 12 saves.
Middletown 7, Dover 0: The Cavaliers tallied six first-half goals en route to the win.
Boys’ volleyball
Delaware Military 3, Smyrna 0: The Seahawks downed the Eagles by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-7.
Joshua Michael and Jalen O’Neal had six kills apiece for Smyrna while Walter Payton had eight assists.
College baseball
Delaware 12, Saint Peter’s 4: The Blue Hens pounded out 16 hits while Chris Ludman and Zach Klapak combined to strike out a program-record 19 in the victory.
Bryce Greenly (Milford), J.J. Freeman and Nick Vera each posted three hits for Delaware (17-10), which won its seventh straight game.
Ludman struck out 14 batters in seven innings before Klapak struck out five in two scoreless frames. The Hens’ 19 combined strikeouts eclipsed the previous record of 17 vs. UCLA on April 1, 1969.
