Local roundup: Cape Henlopen, Woodbridge girls both advance

Mehkia Applewhite netted 22 points as No. 10 Cape HEnlopen High rolled to a 66-43 win over Red Lion Christian in the opening round of the DIAA girls’ basketball state tournament on Wenesday night.

Morgan Mahoney added a triple double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks while Julia Saleur had 14 points for the Henlopen Conference champion Vikings, who led 22-5 after the first quarter.

Cape Henlopen advances to a second-round contest at No. 7 Delmarva Christian on Friday at 7 p.m.

Woodbridge 63, Conrad 38: The Blue Raiders used a 22-8 run in the third quarter to break open its first-round tourney victory.

The Blue Raiders get a rematch with No. 8 Lake Forest on Friday at 7 p.m. in Felton.

Reghan Robinson tallied a game-high 28 points for Woodbridge, including four three-pointers. Payton Keeler added 13 points.

A.I. DuPont 87, Laurel 61: The Tigers opened up a 42-25 halftime advantage before downing the Bulldogs in the state tournament.

Delaney Larrimore (19), Amilleona Palmer (18), Carlie Venables (13) and Ta’Layah Clark (11) all reached double figures for Laurel.
