Cape Henlopen High won the boys’ team title with Sussex Academy taking the girls’ team crown at the Henlopen Conference swimming championships Saturday.

The Outstanding Swimmer awards both went to repeat winners: Sussex Central senior Breydon Wright on the boys’ side and Sussex Academy junior Gracie Maughan in the girls’ meet.

Wright, who is going to continue his career at West Chester, won the 100-yard butterfly (50.71) and the 100-yard backstroke (53.33). Maughan set a meet record in the 200 IM (2:07.94), won the 100-yard breastroke (1:04.83) and swam a leg on two winning relay teams.

Also winning two individual events in the boys’ meet were Caesar Rodney’s Ryan Woodzell (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) and Indian River’s Themo Rigakos (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle). In the girls' meet, Cape Henlopen's Anna Sullivan took the 50 and 100 freestyle.

The Cape Henlopen boys scored 381 points to finish ahead of second-place Caesar Rodney (303). The Sussex Academy girls totaled 385 points with second-place Sussex Tech scoring 307.

Cape Henlopen finished with the most total points (boys and girls combined) with 669. Sussex Academy was second with 660 in the event held at Sussex Academy.

Wrestling

Cape Henlopen 32, Salesianum 25: A 34-second pin by Luke Bender (165 pounds) started a run of three straight victories that clinched the nonconference win for the Vikings.

Cape Henlopen, which fell behind 12-0 at the start of the bout, led 32-19 with one match left after the run. The Vikings also got a third-period pin from Joshua Wright (138).

Smyrna 42, Red Lion 36: The Eagles won four straight matches to open a 42-30 lead going into the final bout.

Smyrna, which improved to 10-9, got pins from Wyatt Miller-Hall (120), Tyree Heath (138) and Jesse Dixon (150).

First State Military 60, Newark Charter 22: Jeyson (165) and Jarrett Waltz (190) registered pins in 22 seconds to lead the Bulldogs.

Thomas Moffatt (144) and Caden Thomas (157) also won by fall in under a minute with Mason Milligan (106), Kenneth George (126) and Sean Hitchens (215) also winning by pin.

Caravel 57, Lake Forest 14: Jacob Pinder (120) and Jerusalem Howard (132) both won by major decision for the Spartans.

Laurel 82, Sussex Academy 0: The Bulldogs finished a perfect 6-0 in the Henlopen South with the win.

Winning by pin for Laurel were Kade Wootten (106), Connor Smith (120), Landen Messick (132), Stanley Pete (138), Xavier Limehouse (144) and Brayden Hearn (215).

Boys’ basketball

Caesar Rodney 47, Sussex Central 44: The Riders outscored the Golden Knights 14-5 in the fourth quarter to pull out the North victory.

Adam Bailey (11) and Alexander Doughty (10) combined to hit six of CR’s seven three-pointers.

Clarence McBride-Allen (15) and Garrett Statler (12) paced the Golden Knights.

Lake Forest 59, Early College 38: The Spartans outscored the Hornets, 23-11, in the third quarter to break open the Henlopen South victory.

Darius Miller netted a game-high 23 points with Jackson Starkey (17) and Calif Spencer (12) also scoring in double figures.

Tyrhon Jarrett tallied a team-high 17 points for Early College.

Delmarva Christian 54, Delmar 47: The Royals improved to 13-6 after posting the nonconference win.

Girls’ basketball

Woodbridge 70, St. Elizabeth 43: Reghan Robinson (5 assists, 4 steals) tallied 23 points to lead the Blue Raiders to the nonconference win.

Payton Keeler (15 points), Iyanna Mims (12 points, 10 rebounds), Tianna ?Neal (10 rebounds) and De’Asya Jones (8 assists, 4 steals) also paced Woodbridge.

Delmarva Christian 64, Delcastle 50: Ainsley Bell finished with 27 points, including four three-pointers, as the Royals improved to 16-1.

Journey Handy added 17 points for Delmarva Christian, which led by 13 at halftime.

Howard 57, Indian River 30: The Wildcats jumped out a 19-3 first-quarter lead en route to the win.

Sophomore Mya Whittington tallied 22 points for the Indians, with five three-pointers.

Woodbridge 59, Early College 21: The Blue Raiders led by only seven before outscoring the Hornets, 36-5, in the South win on Thursday.

Reghan Robinson, who hit three three-pointers, netted 21 points while Payton Keeler added 10. Both players had four assists.

Caesar Rodney 52, Sussex Central 29: The Riders improved to 7-11 with the Henlopen North win.
