Cape Henlopen High netted the first three goals of the second half before downing Dover, 4-2, to win the Henlopen North title in boys’ soccer on Thursday night.
The contest was tied 1-1 at halftime before the Vikings reeled off three goals in a seven-minute span starting at the 62nd minute.
Nicholas Panyko (1 assist) scored Cape’s first and last goals with Cardin Benkjamin and Collin Sivels adding the other two. Dru Schneider and Jake Hutchison combined for six saves as the Vikings held advantages of 14-8 in shots and 3-2 in corners.
Cape Henlopen (5-1 North, 12-2), which still has one division game remaining, beat both Caesar Rodney and Dover on the road in a three-day stretch this week to take the North.
Rolando Betancourt-Mejia scored both goals for the Senators while Alex Escalante-Diaz made 10 saves.
Caesar Rodney 5, Polytech 0: Derek Hawkins (1 assist) netted the Riders’ first and last goals in the North win.
Djosonde Anathol, Sawyer Ott and Matthew Ascetta also scored for the Riders (5-2 North, 10-4 overall), who held edges of 15-4 in shots and 8-1 in corner kicks.
The Panthers’ James Watertton made 10 saves.
Sussex Central 3, Milford 1: The Golden Knights earned the Henlopen North victory in a contest that was scoreless at halftime.
Smyrna 0, Sussex Tech 0: The Eagles finished with advantages of 12-9 in shots and 5-3 in corner kicks in the North tie.
Laurel 5, Seaford 2: The Bulldogs topped the Blue Jays in a Henlopen South matchup.
Cross country
CR sweeps Kent Co. meet: Caesar Rodney took both the boys’ and girls’ team titles at the Kent County Championships cross country meet on Thursday.
The Riders’ boys finished with 19 points to place ahead of second-place Polytech, which had 66. In the girls’ meet, CR totaled 39 points while second-place Milford had 42 in the event held at Polytech.
Individually, the Riders’ Ian Cain won the boys’ championship in 17:01 while Milford’s Faith Mitchell captured the girls’ crown in 20:16.
Vikings, Seahawks win in Sussex: Cape Henlopen’s boys’ squad and Sussex Academy’s girls captured the team titles at the Sussex County Championships on Wednesday.
Individually, Cape Henlopen’s Ryan Baker won the boys’ crown in 16:34.4 with Indian River’s Brynn Crandell took the girls’ race in 19:35.6 in the meet held at Sussex Tech.

Caravel 3, Delmarva Christian 2: The Buccaneers won the final three sets to rally for the 14-25, 10-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-9 victory over the Royals (13-2).
Smyrna 3, Wilmington Charter 1: The Eagles won the final two sets before registering the 26-24, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20 victory.
Cape Henlopen 3, Delaware Military 0: The Vikings won the non-conference contest by scores of 25-20, 27-25, 25-14.
Kalista Lawson (9 kills, 22 digs), Kayleigh Mault (8 kills, 1 ace), Harlee Graulich (19 digs) and Megan Smith (27 assists) paced Cape Henlopen.
Sussex Academy 3, Milford 0: The Seahawks downed the Buccaneers by scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-13.
Indian River 3, Sussex Central 0: The Indians posted a 25-18, 25-17, 25-15 victory over the district rival Golden Knights.
Field hockey
Cape Henlopen 5, Polytech 0: The Vikings ended the regular season with a record of 14-1 after picking up its 13th shutout.
North champion Cape Henlopen is slated to face South winner Delmar in the Henlopen Conference championship game on Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at a site TBA.
Milford 1, Indian River 0: Isabel Betts’ fourth-quarter goal lifted the Buccaneers to the victory.
Milford finished with advantages of 16-3 in shots and 7-6 in corners.
Jazmin Mayfield made 13 saves for the Indians.
Delmar 11, Padua 0: Jordyn Hollamon finished with five goals in the Wildcats’ win at DE Turf Complex.
Maci Bradford added three goals with Josie Hollamon adding two for Delmar.
Lake Forest 10, Delmarva Christian 0: Carmella Gannon, Morgan Durand and Carley Rebuck all scored twice in the Spartans’ victory.
Elizabeth Moyer made 33 saves for the Royals.
Delmar 11, Woodbridge 0: Jordyn Hollamon and Maci Bradford both tallied four goals for the Wildats in the Henlopen South win on Wednesday.
Josie Hollamon added two goals and five assists for Delmar.
Abilgail Tatman had 10 saves for the Blue Raiders.
