Cape Henlopen High took an early two-run lead before holding off Caesar Rodney, 3-2, in Henlopen Conference softball on Tuesday afternoon.

The Vikings scored twice in the third inning and once more in the top of the sixth. The Riders could only answer with single runs in the fourth and sixth.

Winning pitcher Riley Shields allowed only five hits while Sydney Ostroski doubled for Cape (3-1 in conference, 5-2 overall).

Alyssa Ball threw a four-hitter for CR (4-3, 6-3), which got doubles from Rosa’lynn Burton and Kendall Lewis.

Dover 9, Woodbridge 4: The Senators never trailed after scoring four runs in the top of the first.

Dover (4-3), which has matched its highest win total since 2010, got three hits apiece from Kaila Quick, Tabriana Miller and Ayne’ Carter. Winning pitcher Katie Dunlap, who struck out five, hit a homerun.

Woodbridge got two hits each from Corrin Farris and Beverly VanBuskirk.

Polytech 10, Newark Charter 0: Taylor Pechin pitched a five-inning one-hitter with eight strikeouts in the Panthers’ shutout win.

Whitney DeMora was 3-for-4 with three RBI for Polytech, which broke open a 3-0 game with five runs in the fourth. Morgan Dodge, Brianna Sapienza, Pechin, and Hayley DiCarlantonio all contributed two hits to the Panthers’ total of 13.

Lake Forest 8, Delmar 5: The Spartans overcame an early 5-3 deficit to post the conference win.

Smyrna 19, Seaford 0: Jessica Anderson and Olyvia Smith combined to pitch a five-inning perfect game as the Eagles (6-0) remained unbeaten.

Taylor Cappella homered and doubled to spark Smyrna’s 13-hit attack.

Sussex Central 3, Milford 0: Hayley McCabe pitched a six-hitter with 11 strikeouts to earn the shutout for the Golden Knights.

Megan Frye allowed only one hit for the Buccaneers while adding three hits at the plate.

Sussex Tech 11, Laurel 0: Sarah James and Brooke Ward threw a five-inning no-hitter for the Ravens.

Rylee Shockley (2 RBI), Elisha Marks (1 RBI) and Moriah Reid (1 RBI) all doubled for Sussex Tech, which scored seven runs in the first.

St. Thomas More 9, Dickinson 0: Maggie Poppiti, Sabrine Portalatin and Gillian Leblanc all doubled for the Ravens in the win.

Indian River 6, Parkside, Md. 2: The Indians broke out to a 5-0 advantage after two innings before posting the win on Monday.

Pitchers Marley Evans and Abigail O’Shields combined on a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Evans (2 RBI) and Damya Williams (3 runs) both went 2-for-3.

Baseball

Lake Forest 7, Delmar 2: Tyler Collins pitched a six-hitter with five strikeouts to earn the win for the Spartans.

Lake led 5-0 after scoring three runs in the third. Jordan Simpson, Tyler Collins, Dylan Martin (2 RBI), Cody Cole and Hunter Fleetwood (2 RBI) each had two hits.

Chris Richardson singled home a run for the Wildcats.

Cape Henlopen 10, Caesar Rodney 5: The Vikings scored seven runs over their last three at-bats to pull away from a 3-3 tie.

Will Jarrell (homer, double, 3 RBI) and Zach Gelof (triple, double, 2 RBI) each went 3-for-4 for Cape. Drew Mulcahy added two hits and three RBI.

Quintin Ivy (homer, 2 RBI) and Robert Williams (1 RBI) both had two hits for CR, which had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Dover 12, Woodbridge 2: Tyler Rosello homered and drove in two runs in the Senators’ victory.

Five pitchers combined on a two-hitter for Dover, which scored four runs in both the second and third. Jordan Hutchins added a pair of doubles.

Garret Temple had two RBI for Woodbridge.

Smyrna 12, Seaford 1: Eric Carrow’s three-run triple in the third broke open a scoreless game.

The Eagles’ Shawn Dulin and Connor Dulin combined on a three-hitter while Jared Gillis, Eric Carrow, and John Barkley had two hits apiece.

Zach Adams had two of the Blue Jays’ three hits.

Sussex Central 10, Milford 0: Trevor Collins tossed a five-inning three-hitter to earn the shutout for the Golden Knights.

Central was led by Chris Harrison (2-for-3, 3 RBI), D.J. Doherty (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Trey Toppin (RBI double) and Jordan Dorman (RBI double).

Shawn Snowden had a double for Milford.

Sussex Tech 14, Laurel 2: Seven players had multiple hits for the Ravens, who scored 10 runs in the first.

Trent Hearn (2-for-2, 1 run, 2 RBI), Justin Hill (2-for-2, 3 runs, 1 RBI) and Anthony Hitchcock (2-for-3, 1 run, 3 RBI) paced Sussex Tech’s 17-hit attack.

The Bulldogs’ Trace Hitchens was 2-for-3 while Zach Baynum and Timothy Chandler had a hit an an RBI each.

Caravel 10, Indian River 0: The Indians were limited to only one hit in the nonconference loss.

Girls’ soccer

Dover 5, Delmarva Christian 0: Katie Ford netted four goals as the Senators (4-2) won their third game in a row.

Cassidy Bennetti added a goal and a pair of assists for Dover, which led 4-0 at halftime. The Senators outshot the Royals, 19-5.

Newark Charter 4, Lake Forest 0: The Patriots (5-0) netted four goals in the first half to deal the Spartans (6-1) their first loss.

Lawson Schultz started the scoring in the seventh minute when she pounced on a rebound in front of the goal before Ali Narvaez doubled Newark Charter’s lead eight minutes later. Narvaez converted a penalty kick for her second goal of the half and Hannah Cutler added a goal off a free kick.

The Spartans were outshot 13-6.

Polytech 8, Seaford 0: Devon Ott scored three of the Panthers’ first four goals as they earned their first win.

Samantha Stafford, Madelynne Harrison, Paxton McGinnity, Taylor Johnson and Brenda Lomax also scored goals for Polytech.

Sussex Tech 7, Sussex Central 0: Nicolette Phillips (2 assists) and Sheyla Artiga both scored two goals for the Ravens in the Henlopen North win.

Hanna McDonald (1 assist), Emily Serna and Zena Lowman tallied the other goals for Sussex Tech, which netted six second-half goals. Kiara Whealton made three saves.

Central’s Stephanie Lane and Allison Barrow combined for nine saves.

Woodbridge 7, St. Thomas More 0: Kelsey Eckert and Megan Joseph both scored twice in the Raiders’ win.

Sara Davis, Megan Boyce and Alyssa Burhop also scored goals for Woodbridge, which finished with advantages of 24-2 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

St. Thomas More’s Kourtnie Orth made 13 saves.

Cape Henlopen 1, Milford 0: Kassidy Ostan’s goal in the 72nd minute lifted the Vikings to the win.

Olivia Baratto made six saves with Lindsey Swontak assisting on the game-winner. Cape outshot the Buccaneers, 16-6.

Milford’s Amanda Sauer made 15 saves.

Padua 7, Smyrna 0: Cassidy Cook made 16 saves for the Eagles in their loss to the Pandas (9-0), who are ranked No. 24 in the country.

Padua outshot Smyrna, 25-2.

Lacrosse

BOYS, Smyrna 11, Milford 10: The Eagles tallied the final four goals of the contest to edge the Buccaneers in overtime.

Indian River 13, Salisbury School, Md. 5: Joshua Lucido tallied five goals and an assist to pace the Indians to the win on Monday.

George Martin (3 assists) and Gianni Gottschalk added three goals apiece with William Josetti and Wyatt Kovatch scoring IR’s other goals.

The Indians outshot Salisbury, 35-22.

Sussex Central 14, Delmarva Christian 0: John Morris (1 assist) and William Wells had three goals each for the Golden Knights on Monday.

Devin Cave-Pearsall scored twice while six players netted one goal apiece. Seth Haynie made four saves in the shutout.
