Local roundup: Camden-Wyoming wins District I Junior League baseball title

Camden-Wyoming downed M.O.T., 11-1, on Saturday night to capture the District I title in Junior League baseball.

Blake Knight and Merric Hunt combined to pitch a six-inning one-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Hunt also went 3-for-3 with two RBI and scored twice while Kaden McCoy added a double with two RBI. C-W went 3-0 in the tournament, out-scoring its opponents by a combined 49-6.

Camden-Wyoming moves on to the state tournament, which is being hosted by Georgetown. C-W will face the District II champion on July 26 at 7 p.m.

Landyn Washington singled home Grady Anderson with the lone run for M.O.T.

Major League

District I Tournament

Milford 13, Smyrna-Clayton 0: In a game that was suspended on Saturday night by rain, Milford completed the shutout victory on Sunday.

Milford (2-0), which hasn’t allowed a run yet in the tournament, advances to Tuesday’s 8:30 p.m. winners’ bracket finals against host Camden-Wyoming (1-0).

Ethan Garcia pitched the shutout, allowing only one hit and striking out eight. Tristan Willey, Garcia and Cam Rice-Reed all had two hits for Milford.

Jonathan Valez had the lone hit for Smyrna-Clayton with pitcher Kyler Stevens striking out four.

8-10 District I Tournament

M.O.T. 11, Milford 0: Host M.O.T. reached the district finals with the win on Sunday. The Middletown-area squad will play for the title on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

American Legion

Post 6 earns sweep: In a matchup of winless teams, Nanticoke Post 6 downed the Post 10 Generals, 15-1 and 6-0, in an American Legion doubleheader on Saturday.

In the opener, Jude Dean and James Knisley had five RBI each for the Patriots (2-11). Gage Lunn and Dean both went 4-for-5 while Benjamin Brown, Tyler Noell and James Knisley all doubled.

Tyler Noell got the win, scattering five hits and pitching six shutout innings.

In the second game, Wade Brooks pitched 6 1/3 no-hit innings, striking out 12 with five walks. Reliever Carl Stump got the final two outs to complete the seven-inning no-hitter.

Brown had two hits and a pair of RBI with James Knisley also driving in two runs.

Nanticoke will be the fifth seed in the state tournament, which starts on Saturday at St. Mark’s High.

State Tournament

Lower Sussex 14, M.O.T. 0: Lower Sussex (2-0) posted its second-straight shutout to reach the state finals.

The District III champions will play for the title on Tuesday at Smyrna-Clayton.
